Martina Navratilova reacts to Senator JD Vance's 'disconnected billionaire celebrity' jibe at Taylor Swift after latter's endorsement of Kamala Harris
Martina Navratilova has come to Taylor Swift's defense after the singer was labeled a ‘disconnected billionaire celebrity' by Senator JD Vance. Vance’s criticism of Swift came after the pop star endorsed Kamala Harris for US President in the upcoming elections.
Navratilova has been a staunch advocate of the Democratic party, often sharing her opinion on the pressing issues of politics with her followers on social media. The former tennis star isn't the only one, as many American celebrities have voiced their political opinions ahead of the upcoming US Presidential election.
Most recently, singer-songwriter Taylor Swift showed her support for Harris in the Presidential debate, writing on Instagram:
"I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election. I’m voting for Kamala Harris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos.”
Senator JD Vance reacted to Swift endorsing Harris by calling her a ‘disconnected billionaire’. In a segment on Fox News, the 40-year-old stated that he felt the singer would fail to influence voters, saying:
“We admire Taylor Swift’s music, but I don’t think most Americans, whether they like her music, are fans of hers or not, are going to be influenced by a billionaire celebrity who I think is fundamentally disconnected from the interests and the problems of most Americans."
Martina Navratilova had a simple response to the Senator’s jibe, writing on X,
“JD jealous.”
Martina Navratilova labels JD Vance a misogynist
This isn't the first time that Martina Navratilova has criticized JD Vance on the internet. In late August, comments that the politician had made in a 2021 podcast, resurfaced. In a the now viral video, the 40-year-old can be heard expressed that women who choose to focus on career instead of having a family are choosing a path of misery, saying:
“You have women who think that truly the liberationist path is to spend 90 hours a week working in a cubicle at McKinsey instead of starting a family and having children. What they don’t realize—and I think some of them do eventually realize that, thank God—is that that is actually a path to misery.”
Martina Navratilova reacted to this comment by labeling the Senator a misogynist, writing:
“JD Vance just might be an even bigger misogynist than trump. And that’s not easy.”
Navratilova is among the greatest tennis players of all time, with a total of 59 Grand Slam titles to her name across singles, doubles and mixed doubles. Half of her 18 singles Majors came at Wimbledon, which is a record for any player in the history of the grass-court Major.
