Martina Navratilova slams Republicans defending $8 billion-worth Donald Trump after controversial comments on New Orleans truck attack suspect
Tennis legend Martina Navratilova sharply criticized Republicans defending President-elect Donald Trump after his controversial comments on the New Orleans truck attack suspect. Trump falsely blamed the attack on immigration failures, despite the attacker being a U.S. citizen.
The New Orleans truck attack, which occurred on New Year's Day, left at least 15 people dead and 35 injured. The suspect, Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a U.S. citizen and Army veteran from Texas, drove a pickup truck into a crowd on Bourbon Street before being shot and killed by police.
In the aftermath, Trump blamed the attack on President Joe Biden's administration’s border policies.
"When I said that the criminals coming in are far worse than the criminals we have in our country, that statement was constantly refuted by Democrats and the Fake News Media, but it turned out to be true. The crime rate in our country is at a level that nobody has ever seen before," Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.
"Our hearts are with all of the innocent victims and their loved ones, including the brave officers of the New Orleans Police Department. The Trump Administration will fully support the City of New Orleans as they investigate and recover from this act of pure evil!" he added.
Fox News initially reported that the driver had crossed the border from Mexico, but later clarified that the suspect was a U.S. citizen. Despite this, Trump continued to push his narrative, blaming the Biden administration's border policies for the attack.
The 18-time Grand Slam singles champion took to social media to slam Republican strategist Neil Chatterjee for defending Trump's remarks in a CNN interview. She reshared the video on X (formerly Twitter) and wrote:
"The excuses these republican talking heads use are just something else."
As of 2025, Donald Trump's net worth stands at an estimated $8 billion (according to celebritynetworth.com), making him one of the wealthiest figures in American politics and business.
Martina Navratilova shares her thoughts on Donald Trump’s immigration plan and Border Czar selection
Martina Navratilova expressed her views on President-elect Donald Trump’s decision to appoint Tom Homan as his 'Border Czar' to oversee illegal immigration during his second term.
Homan is known for his role in implementing the contentious "zero tolerance" policy that led to the separation of migrant children from their parents as part of an effort to curb illegal immigration.
In November 2024, Tony Michaels, host of The Tony Michaels Podcast, voiced his concerns about Homan’s appointment as Trump's 'Border Czar' on X (formerly Twitter). Navratilova reposted Michaels’ message, adding a brief, three-word commentary:
"Homan is evil."
In other news, Martina Navratilova called Donald Trump a "moron" after he reversed his 2016 stance on H-1B visas, now claiming he would allow more skilled workers into the U.S. due to an impending job boom.
