Martina Navratilova tears into Senator Deb Fischer's 'loser" husband after he snubs Kamala Harris' handshake

Tennis icon Martina Navratilova has made headlines for her sharp criticism of Bruce Fischer, the husband of Republican Senator Deb Fischer. The controversy erupted during the swearing-in ceremony of the 119th Congress, where Bruce Fischer's refusal to shake hands with Vice President Kamala Harris drew widespread attention.

The incident took place on January 3, 2025, as Senator Deb Fischer from Nebraska was being sworn in by Vice President Kamala Harris, who was conducting the ceremony in her role as President of the Senate. Bruce Fischer, who accompanied his wife, was holding a Bible in one hand and a cane in the other.

When Harris extended her hand to congratulate him, Bruce Fischer responded with a simple "Thank you" but did not shake her hand, which many perceived as a deliberate snub.

This moment, captured on video and widely shared on social media, quickly became a topic of heated debate. Liberal commentators criticized Fischer's actions as disrespectful and indicative of the MAGA (Make America Great Again) supporters' attitude, while others suggested that his refusal might have been due to physical limitations or an innocent oversight.

The controversy was further fueled when an X (formerly Twitter) user shared old clips of Bruce Fischer interacting joyfully with former vice presidents Joe Biden and Mike Pence during respective swear-in ceremonies, contrasting his behavior towards Harris.

Navratilova reshared the clip and called Bruce Fischer a "loser," writing:

"Hmm. What a loser."

In another tweet, she criticized Joe Walsh, a former Illinois politician and conservative commentator, for questioning Senator Deb Fischer about her husband's behavior, accusing Walsh of making the situation about himself.

"And this old fart makes it about him. What a jerk," Navratilova wrote.

Martina Navratilova responded to claims that Kamala Harris’ 2024 election loss to Donald Trump was partly due to the Democrats’ controversial stance on transgender athletes in women’s sports.

A user on X (formerly Twitter) argued that swing state voters felt Harris prioritized transgender issues over middle-class concerns, while another user criticized Democrats for supporting such policies.

"Never understood why the Democrats so enthusiastically championed objectively bad policies (men in women’s sports - yay!) that also put them out of step with the voters who take a much more sensible position on these issues than them," the user wrote.

The 18-time Grand Slam singles champion responded with a one-word reply, seemingly agreeing with the sentiment.

"Hmm," Nvratilova wrote.

In related news, Martina Navratilova issued a stark warning to American voters following Donald Trump's decisive election victory over Democrat Kamala Harris which helped him secure a second term in the White House.
