Martina Navratilova welcomes $3.3 million-worth seizure of assets notice against controversial Andrew Tate from UK court

Martina Navratilova, widely considered to be a game-changer in the world of women's tennis, called time on her playing career nearly two decades ago, however, she has continued to stay in the news. Most recently, the tennis star showed her support for a UK court's ruling against social media influencer Andrew Tate.

Tate is a controversial internet celebrity, having gained notoriety for his views promoting a hyper-macho view of masculinity. He has been involved in five legal investigations as of August 2024. Recently, a court in the United Kingdom ruled that the police were allowed to seize more than $3 million in frozen financial assets from Tate to cover previously unpaid taxes.

The official CBS News account on X wrote:

“A court in the United Kingdom ruled Wednesday that police could seize the equivalent of $3.3 million in frozen financial assets from misogynist social media influencer Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan to cover years of unpaid taxes.”

Reacting to this, Martina Navratilova showed her support for the court's ruling, re-sharing the post and adding five clapping emojis.

This isn't the first time Martina Navratilova has shown her disapproval of Andrew Tate. Back in June of 2024, the latter was indicted in Romania along with his brother and two Romanian women. The charges were of human trafficking, rape and forming a criminal gang to sexually exploit women.

Tate, as well as his brother and the two Romanian women, denied the charges. During this time, there was also a British arrest warrant out for Tate. As a result, a Romanian court approved a request from Britain to extradite the influencer, while postponing doing so until Romanian trial proceedings were completed.

According to Reuters, a statement from the court of appeals said that it "rules to execute the arrest warrant and...to postpone handing over the requested person until the final verdict in the criminal case argued at the Bucharest court."

Reacting to this news, Navratilova took X to write:

“Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.’

Martina Navratilova’s tennis career saw her dominate much of the women's singles game in the late 1980s, winning 18 Grand Slam titles. She was also an excellent doubles player, winning 31 major women's doubles titles, and 10 major mixed doubles titles.

Navratilova has been vocal about a lot of issues including women's rights and transgender athletes playing with biological women. While her opinions often face criticism from fans, she has kept her views very clear on social media.
