Matteo Berrettini drags Jannik Sinner, insists he & Lorenzo Musetti are better than World No. 1 at best-selling PS game
Matteo Berrettini dragged Jannik Sinner, insisting he and Lorenzo Musetti were better than the World No. 1 when it came to playing one of the best-selling PlayStation games EA Sports FC.
Berrettini was part of the Italy team that featured at the 2024 Davis Cup Finals. The 28-year-old alongside Sinner, Musetti, Andrea Vavassori, and Simone Bolelli triumphed over the Netherlands, 2-0 in Sunday's final in Malaga to clinch the title.
Former tennis player Alessandro Bega, who was part of the triumphant Italian side, took to social media to share a few memorable moments from the Davis Cup Finals campaign. One picture showed Berrettini, Sinner, Musetti, and Vavassori playing EA Sports FC on PlayStation.
Berrettini reshared the picture on Instagram on Tuesday to claim that he and Musetti made a better team than Sinner and Vavassori.
"And in the meantime, musettini (Musetti and Berrettini) > vavinner (Vavassori and Sinner)," Berrettini wrote on his Instagram stories.
On the tennis front, both Berrettini and Sinner put on a show at the Davis Cup Finals title clash. Berrettini, who could not feature last time around due to injury, made his presence count this year. He defeated Botic van de Zandschulp 6-4, 6-2 in the opening tie.
Sinner then sealed the deal with a 7-6(2), 6-2 win against Tallon Griekspoor. With the win, the Italian side became the first country since the 2013 Czechia side to successfully defend the Davis Cup title.
"Jannik Sinner is the most humble player there is" - Matteo Berrettini on fellow Italian after Davis Cup Finals triumph
Matteo Berrettini showered praise on World No. 1 Jannik Sinner after the Italian side's triumph at the 2024 Davis Cup Finals.
Berrettini reflected on Sinner's "humble" approach towards the team. He recalled an incident where the two-time Grand Slam champion asked the whole squad about him featuring in the doubles match against Argentina in the quarterfinals.
"He [Sinner] is the most humble player there is. He came here as if he had not won the ATP Finals. He showed great respect for the team. Before entering the doubles against Argentina, he asked the whole team if anyone was okay with that decision and that is something special," Berrettini told the media.
Berrettini also commended Sinner's power-hitting and ability to play with minimal errors:
"We had never seen anyone hit so hard, so flat and make so few mistakes. It seemed like he never made mistakes."
Jannik Sinner has had quite an extraordinary 2024 season. The Italian clinched eight titles, including three ATP Masters 1000 and two Grand Slams. He wrapped up the year with a win percentage of 92.4%.
