"Me and my husband are big fans of Iga Swiatek" - Simone Biles on watching Pole compete against fellow American, Jessica Pegula, in US Open QF

American artistic gymnast Simone Biles recently attended the quarterfinal match between Iga Swiatek and Jessica Pegula at the 2024 US Open. While there, Biles shared that she and her husband, American football player Jonathan Owens, are "big fans" of Swiatek.

Swiatek was the top seed at the New York Slam and she defeated lucky loser Kamilla Rakhimova 6-4, 7-6(6) and qualifier Ena Shibahara 6-0, 6-1 in the first and second rounds respectively.

The Pole then overcame 25th seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-4, 6-2 in the third round and then registered a 6-4, 6-1 win over 16th seed Liudmila Samsonova in the fourth round to secure her place in the quarterfinals.

However, the World No.1's campaign at Flushing Meadows came to an end when she was defeated 2-6, 4-6 by sixth seed Jessica Pegula in the last eight.

Seven-time Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles was present at the Arthur Ashe Stadium. There, she said that her time at the US Open was "electric" and revealed that she and her husband Jonathan Owens are big fans of Iga Swiatek. Biles also added that watching the World No.1 play has been a "blessing" and an "honour" for her.

“Oh my gosh! So far it’s been electric. It’s a lot quieter than I anticipated, but it’s an absolutely beautiful atmosphere. Me and my husband are such big fans of Iga [Swiatek], so to come here and watch her work is just a blessing and an honour,” Biles said.

Following her win over Iga Swiatek in the quarterfinals of the 2024 US Open, Jessica Pegula will take on Karolina Muchova in the semifinals of the tournament.

Pegula has been on a roll at the North American hard court swing. She began by winning the title at the 2024 Canadian Open, where she triumphed over her compatriot Amanda Anisimova 6-3, 2-6, 6-1 in the final. Following this success, the World No.6 had a runner-up finish at the Cincinnati Open, falling to Aryna Sabalenka 3-6, 5-7 in the final.

At the US Open, sixth seed Jessica Pegula began her campaign by defeating fellow Americans Shelby Rogers 6-4, 6-3 and Sofia Kenin 7-6(4), 6-3 in the first and second rounds, respectively. She then powered through the third round against Jessica Bouzas Maneiro with a 6-3, 6-3 victory, and then overcame 18th seed Diana Shnaider 6-4, 6-2 in the fourth round.

Jessica Pegula has faced Karolina Muchova only once on the WTA tour, in the second round of the 2024 Cincinnati Open which the American won 5-7, 6-4, 6-2.
