"More time I spend with Andre Agassi, I realize he's just a pretty face" - Marcos Giron jokes about what he has learned from his 'unreal' compatriot
Marcos Giron joked that the more time he spends with Andre Agassi, the more he realizes that he is just a 'pretty face'. The 30-year-old player, however, on a serious note, was all praise for Agassi, who is the 'nicest guy' he has met.
Giron is currently competing at the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships in Newport. The second seed got the better of BenoƮt Paire in the second round, 4-6, 7-5, 6-4. On July 19, Giron defeated Alex Bolt in the quarterfinal 6-4, 6-1.
Agassi was in the stands when Giron put up an impressive display to advance into the semifinals of the ATP 250 event. During his post-match interview, the 30-year-old was asked what he had learned from the eight-time Grand Slam champion.
"The more time I spend with him I realize he's just a pretty face [laughs]," Giron hilariously responded.
He mentioned that Agassi is someone he has always looked up to and the 54-year-old is the 'nicest guy'.
"No, honestly, the guy is unreal. He's really the nicest guy I've ever met. His knowledge is incredible, so, it is really special. He's somebody I've looked up to growing up and it's really amazing that he is even better in person than you can imagine," Giron added.
Andre Agassi toured the International Tennis Hall of Fame museum, met Marcos Giron, Reilly Opelka
Before watching Marcos Giron's match in Newport, Andre Agassi visited the International Hall of Fame. The 54-year-old missed out on the unveiling of the Chris Evert Learning Center but he took the opportunity to tour the museum.
The former World No. 1 was spotted enjoying the US Open exhibit. It featured a poster of current WTA World No. 2 Coco Gauff's triumph at Flushing Meadows last year.
The eight-time Grand Slam champion later took to the court with Reilly Opelka. The 26-year-old struggled with injuries in the last two years and is now making a comeback to the tour at the Hall of Fame Open. Agassi also met Giron and posed for a picture with his compatriot.
Both Giron and Opelka have made it to the semifinals of the tournament. Opelka defeated Constant Lestienne in the first round and ousted top seed Adrian Mannarino in the second round. In the quarterfinals, Opelka managed to come back from a set down to defeat Mackenzie McDonald.
In the semifinals, Giron will take on compatriot and fourth seed Chris Eubanks, while Opelka will also take on a fellow American, third seed Alex Michelsen.
