“My partner is killing it” - Taylor Townsend celebrates Katerina Siniakova winning Paris Olympics mixed doubles gold
Taylor Townsend was over the moon after Katerina Siniakova's triumph at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The American recently won her maiden doubles Grand Slam title with the Czech at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships.
Siniakova paired up with Tomas Machac to compete for Czechia in the mixed doubles at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The two also played the singles and also the women's and men's doubles, respectively, in Paris. In the mixed doubles, the Czech couple registered straight sets wins against top seed Alexander Zverev and Laura Siegemund of Germany, Ena Shibahara and Kei Nishikori of Japan, and Gabriela Dabrowski and Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada to reach the final.
Siniakova and Machac faced Zhang Zhizhen and Wang Xinyu of China in the gold medal match and emerged victorious via a match tiebreaker 6-2, 5-7, 10-8. This is Siniakova's second Olympic gold medal, she having bagged her first in the women's doubles format at Tokyo 2020. The success in the French capital wrapped up an outstanding couple of months for the Czech, who recently won her third women's doubles Grand Slams for each of the French Open and the Wimbledon Championships.
Siniakova won the title at Roland Garros with Coco Gauff and at SW19 with Taylor Townsend. These were the first doubles Majors for both Townsend and Gauff. After the Czech added another accolade to her resume at the Paris Olympics, Townsend congratulated her Wimbledon partner on Instagram. She wrote:
"My partner is killing it!! @siniakovakaterina way to go!!" Townsend wrote in an Instagram story.
