Naomi Osaka shrugs off second pregnancy rumors: "I wouldn't want many more... giving birth was traumatic"
Naomi Osaka has dismissed the suggestion that she is pregnant with her second child, along with a brief recollection of the negative experience she had during her first pregnancy. The former World No. 1 gave birth to a baby girl on July 2, 2023 who was named Shai by her and her partner, Cordae.
Just days before the commencement of the 2023 Australian Open, Osaka had announced that she was pregnant with rapper Cordae's child and that she would be withdrawing from the prestigious hardcourt Major. However, she did commit to making her comeback at this year's edition of the Australian Open, eventually returning at the 2024 Brisbane International before featuring in the season's first Grand Slam.
Osaka experienced complications during labor, which she revealed in an interview with InStyle late last year. According to the Japanese, doctors advised her to push the baby out rapidly, and at this point she felt intense pain.
"I do remember feeling in that moment, 'This is the worst pain of my life. And I know that if I get through this, then everything else will feel very easy,'" Naomi Osaka said.
Recently, a TikTok user wished the four-time Major winner well, believing that she is pregnant for the second time. However, Naomi Osaka responded to the user and shrugged off the suggestion, going on to say that her "traumatic" experience during her first pregnancy has led to a state of mind where she doesn't "want many more" children.
"I just wanna say, I'm not preggos, but if I was, I wouldn't want many more, because giving birth was traumatic. But thank you, though, for your blessings," Naomi Osaka said.
Currently ranked World No. 90, Osaka has been unable to rediscover her finest form since making her comeback after her maternity leave.
Naomi Osaka's form has been marred by inconsistency since her return
While the Japanese has produced flashes of her former brilliance, maintaining consistency has proved to be troublesome for Naomi Osaka. So far this season, she has 17 wins and 14 losses
Arguably her best display of 2024 came during her second-round loss to World No. 1 Iga Swiatek at the French Open. Osaka went toe-to-toe with the Pole on that occasion, and for large parts of the match, it seemed likely that she would cause one of the biggest upsets of the season. However, Swiatek recovered brilliantly from match point down, condemning the Japanese to a harsh loss.
Osaka's form in the buildup to the 2024 US Open has been worrying. The former World No. 1 was ousted by Elise Mertens in the second round of the National Bank Open in Toronto. Recently, she lost to Ashlyn Krueger in the second round of qualifying at the ongoing Cincinnati Open.
