Nick Kyrgios brags about his special 'power' after sparking controversy with harsh Jannik Sinner criticism
Nick Kyrgios is one of the best-known tennis players and is frequently in the news owing to his controversial takes on and off the court. More recently, the Australian has been vocally critical of Jannik Sinner following the Italian's doping row.
Jannik Sinner tested positive for a banned substance earlier this year, though that wasn't public knowledge until much later when he was officially cleared by ITIA after a thorough review. However, the sequence of those events raised suspicion about the process, and Kyrgios was one of the people to call it into question.
Amid Sinner's doping row, Nick Kyrgios has taken frequent jibes at the former, voicing his criticism of Sinner's explanation and even claimed that the Italian should be suspended.
More recently, in a Nothing Major podcast episode, Kyrgios expressed his desire to play a match against Jannik Sinner. The Australian said that he wanted to make it a 'crazy match' as he would play it 'without any respect'. His comments seemingly sparked criticism from fans online, with some calling out his 'obsession' with Sinner.
Reacting to the criticism from the fans, Nick Kyrgios took to Instagram stories on Sunday, December 16 and wrote:
"Funny how I can make a couple of comments and throw people into an absolute frenzy. Shouldn't have this kind of power," Kyrgios wrote.
During his appearance on the Nothing Major podcast, Nick Kyrgios also declared that he doesn't like Wimbledon that much, as he doesn't 'vibe' with it compared to the US Open, which he declared was his favorite Major.
Nick Kyrgios to return to tennis in Abu Dhabi
Besides his controversial takes away from the court, the Australian is set to make his comeback soon. Kyrgios is slated to take part in the World Tennis League in Abu Dhabi, which begins on December 19th. The Australian is part of the Kites Team alongside Casper Ruud, Jasmine Paolini, and Simona Halep.
This will be the first time the Australian will be back on the courts since last playing in Stuttgart in 2023. It's been well over a year since then, and lots of tennis fans are excited to see what Kyrgios will bring once he comes back to the sport. He was pretty good in 2022, arguably one of the best in the world, making the Wimbledon final among other things.
After the World Tennis League, Kyrgios will continue his return down under on home soil, signing up to play there including a possible team-up with Novak Djokovic.
The Australian has teased playing doubles with Djokovic in Brisbane, which would be quite a spectacle as the duo emerged as pretty good friends after notoriously being on hostile terms during the pandemic when Kyrgios called out Djokovic for the ill-fated Adria Tour.
