Nick Kyrgios drops 1-word response to tennis insider's controversial remarks about Barbora Krejcikova’s physical appearance

Nick Kyrgios has joined the discussion to give his two cents about the ongoing controversy between tennis analyst Jon Wertheim and Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejčíková. The controversy stemmed from Wertheim’s comments about Krejcikova’s physical appearance on air.

On Friday, November 8, Wertheim joined a Tennis Channel broadcast and commented on the appearance of Krejcikova's forehead. The WTA star was unhappy with the statements and criticized Wertheim's unprofessional conduct.

"You might have heard about the recent comments made on Tennis Channel during the WTA Finals coverage that focused on my appearance rather than my performance. As an athlete who has dedicated herself to this sport, it was disappointing to see this type of unprofessional commentary,” she wrote on X.

Post this, John Wertheim shared a public apology, stating that the comments were meant for a private rehearsal.

“During a Tennis Channel studio show on Friday, I made some deeply regrettable comments off-air. I acknowledge them. I apologize for them. I reached out immediately and apologized to the player. Though this was a private rehearsal, this exchange inadvertently, and without context, made it to live air. It was neither professional nor charitable nor reflective of the person I strive to be. I am accountable. I own this. I am sorry,” the tennis analyst wrote in X.

Nick Kyrgios has joined the discussion to give his opinion on the controversy. Responding to a video of the incident circulating on X, the Australian wrote,

“Embarrassing.”

In September earlier this year, Nick Kyrgios found himself in hot water after his comments about the WTA player and his ex-girlfriend Anna Kalinskaya. A fan on X shared a picture of Kalinskaya posing with boyfriend Jannik Sinner, to which Kyrgios replied in a now-deleted tweet,

“Second serve.”

Fans were left furious, and Jon Wertheim joined in the conversation with a reference to Kyrgios' inappropriate comments to Stan Wawrinka during a Rogers Cup match in 2015.

‘Nick Kyrgios once made a misogynistic, wildly inappropriate comment about a WTA player, drew the anger of her ATP player boyfriend, his coach, and much of the locker room…but didn’t face real consequence, dismissed, as it was, as youthful indiscretion. That was 2015. He's 29 now,” Wertheim wrote on X.

Nick Kyrgios is currently on a hiatus from tennis, having played his last ATP match in June of 2023. The Australian is struggling with injury issues but is set to make a comeback to the court at the 2025 Australian Open.
