Nick Kyrgios falls for fake Kevin Durant quote making fun of women as a "headache" while explaining NBA star's single status
Nick Kyrgios has fallen victim to a fabricated quote attributed to NBA superstar Kevin Durant. The Phoenix Suns player was falsely reported to have said that he remained single to avoid talking about basketball with a woman that had no knowledge of his accomplishments.
During an appearance on the 'Impaulsive' podcast earlier this year, Durant opened up on his relationship status and why he was single, emphatically asserting that he "didn't want a girlfriend."
However, a parody account on social media recently shared a fabricated quote in which Kevin Durant asserted that he was still "riding solo" because he didn't want to deal with the "headache" of dating a woman who couldn't even name the year he won his MVP trophy or explain simple basketball concepts.
"Still rolling solo because I’m not dealing with the headache of debating ball with a woman who can’t name my MVP year or break down a pick-and-roll," Durant was quoted as saying.
In a hilarious turn of events, Nick Kyrgios was fooled by the fake quote. Although Kyrgios has been in a loving relationship with his girlfriend Costeen Hatzi since 2021, the Australian empathized with Kevin Durant over the "tough" predicament.
"Low key tough," Kyrgios commented.
As an avid basketball fan, Kyrgios has often shown his support for Durant. When news broke that the 36-year-old would be leaving the Brooklyn Nets last year, the Australian attempted to entice him to join his favorite team, the Boston Celtics. However, Durant ultimately teamed up with Devin Booker at the Phoenix Suns.
"Kevin Durant got more talent in his finger" - Nick Kyrgios lashed out at Noah Lyles for taking a dig at NBA 'world champions'
In August 2023, American sprinter Noah Lyles sparked controversy by lambasting NBA title winners for referring to themselves as "world champions," arguing that track athletes had a better right to the title since they represented the Unites States against international athletes.
"I have to watch the NBA Finals and they have world champion on their head. World champion of what? The United States? Don’t get me wrong. I love the U.S. at times, but that ain’t the world. That is not the world," Lyles said.
"We are the world. We have almost every country out here fighting, thriving, putting on their flag to show they are represented. There ain’t no flags in the NBA. We gotta do more. We gotta be presented to the world," he added.
Nick Kyrgios did not take kindly to Noah Lyles' criticism, asserting that NBA superstar Kevin Durant had more talent in his finger than Lyles possessed in his entire body.
"Running, Durant got more talent in his finger than this guy got in his body," Nick Kyrgios posted on Instagram.
Despite his passion for basketball, Kyrgios has made it clear that he has "no regrets" about pursuing a career in professional tennis instead, as it has allowed him to better the lives of his family and close friends.
