Nick Kyrgios makes snide remark at Jannik Sinner's US Open 2024 victory as Piers Morgan brings up Italian's failed drug tests

Jannik Sinner stormed to the US Open 2024 title on Sunday, but Nick Kyrgios was among those unhappy with his win. As British broadcaster Piers Morgan brought up the Italian's failed drug tests after his victory, Kyrgios was quick to chime in with a sarcastic remark.

A little under a month ago, the ITIA revealed that Sinner had tested positive twice for the banned substance Clostebol in March during the Indian Wells. While the Australian Open champion was initially handed a provisional suspension, he was allowed to keep competing after he appealed the decision, and the entire ordeal was kept under wraps until August when the ITIA cleared him of any wrongdoing.

Since then, the 23-year-old's presence on the court has become a point of controversy, with Nick Kyrgios calling the entire ordeal “ridiculous” in a post on X when the news of the Italian’s failed drug tests was first made public.

“Ridiculous – whether it was accidental or planned. You get tested twice with a banned substance ... you should be gone for 2 years. Your performance was enhanced. Massage cream... yea nice.”

Jannik Sinner clinched his second Grand Slam title after beating Taylor Fritz at the US Open, but many weren't happy with his win. Britain's Piers Morgan shared a post celebrating the Italian's victory on X that read ‘Sinner Sinner US Open Winner’ and wrote,

“*After failing TWO drugs tests. (Fixed it for you).”

Kyrgios chimed into the discussion with a jibe of his own, writing,

“🤷🏽‍♂️🥱 first time in history! We are witnessing greatness!”

Nick Kyrgios extends support to Taylor Fritz after US Open defeat

The US Open men's singles final saw Jannik Sinner face off against home favorite Taylor Fritz as the two battled for the trophy. In the end, it was the Italian who emerged victorious, the scoreline reading 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 in his favor after a match that lasted a little over two hours.

While Nick Kyrgios had pegged Sinner as a heavy favorite for the win before the match, he still took some time to show Fritz some support upon his runners-up finish.

“Head up champ 🙏🏽🗣️ what a couple weeks @Taylor_Fritz97 - should be extremely proud of you,” the Australian wrote on X.

Meanwhile, for Nick Kyrgios, his time at the US Open has seen him further explore his talents as a commentator alongside ESPN, a career choice that has left tennis fans divided.
