Nick Kyrgios' pro tennis comeback tournament in 2025 revealed
Former World No. 13 Nick Kyrgios has formally announced his comeback on the ATP Tour in the 2025 season. More than a year ago, the charismatic Australian was last seen playing professional tennis at the 2023 Stuttgart Open.
Kyrgios has confirmed his participation at the upcoming Brisbane International, one of the first tournaments of the 2025 season. The Brisbane event is a preparatory tournament before the Australian Open and it is scheduled to commence on December 29.
Even though it is yet to be officially confirmed, Kyrgios has expressed his desire to play at the Melbourne Major.
The Australian player claimed that he was physically fit to resume professional tennis. Kyrgios stated that he had undergone a wrist reconstruction surgery and felt he was ready to take the court again and play in front of his home fans.
"I played that amazing year in 2022. Then at the finals in Wimbledon and US Open, that's when I started feeling some issues in my wrist. I had that wrist reconstruction and now I'm feeling amazing. It was a 15 miracle per cent chance that I was going to get back to playing at this level and here we are. To get back out there in front of the home fans is going to be sick," said Kyrgios (via abc.net.au)
The last professional match played by Kyrgios was against Wu Yibing, losing 5-7, 3-6 at the first round of the Boss Open in Stuttgart.
Before the Brisbane International, the Aussie will also play in the World Tennis League, which is an exhibition event in Abu Dhabi.
2022 was Nick Kyrgios' last full season on the ATP Tour
Nick Kyrgios played some of his best tennis in the 2022 season, winning 37 out of 47 matches. His most notable singles performance that year was reaching the Wimbledon final, before losing to Novak Djokovic.
The Aussie's only title that year came at the Citi Open, where he beat Marcos Giron, Tommy Paul, Reilly Opelka, Frances Tiafoe and Mikael Ymer before defeating Yoshihito Nishioka in the final.
Kyrgios also reached the quarterfinals of the US Open and two Masters 1000 event in Indian Wells and Montreal.
One of the crowning moments for the Aussie in 2022 was winning the men's doubles title at the Australian Open. He partnered up with fellow countryman Thanasi Kokkinakis and went on an inspired run to win the title, beating another Australian pair of Matt Ebden and Max Purcell in the final.
