Nick Kyrgios praised 'humble' Ben Shelton following his defeat at the US Open 3R
Nick Kyrgios was all praise for Ben Shelton after the American had lauded Frances Tiafoe after their third-round encounter at the US Open. Speaking during the post-match conference, Shelton had kind words for the victor and compatriot, Frances Tiafoe:
"Obviously I thought he played lights-out today. That was one of the things you've got to be happy for a guy and congratulate, especially a guy like him when he's playing the way he's playing."
Shelton's comments captured Kyrgios' attention, who took to X and appreciated the American player for his 'humbleness':
"Shelton, ultimate respect. Well played, I hope you have every success in the world. Humble in defeat. This quote ‘ you have to be smart enough to know when it’s your time, but humble enough to know when it’s someone else’s.’"
In an Instagram post shared on October 1, Kyrgios turned emotional as he reminisced about his career and thanked his fans for their support.
