Nick Kyrgios reacts to Robert Downey Jr.'s blockbuster return to Marvel as Doctor Doom in ''Avengers: Doomsday''

Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios expressed his reaction to the news that Robert Downey Jr. is returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as 'Doctor Doom'. The blockbuster reveal was made during a Comic Con event in San Diego.

On Saturday, July 27, at the San Diego Comic-Con 2024, Marvel Studios made several announcements about their plans. One of the biggest takeaways of the night was the return of Robert Downey Jr.

Kyrgios later took to his Instagram story to post about Downey's return:

Downey first played the role of Iron Man in 2008 and reprised the role in multiple movies, cementing his place in the hearts of fans. In 2019, the character of Iron Man died in the final moments of 'Avengers: Endgame'.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige mentioned that a lot of hard work had gone into making the character and giving it a fitting end. Feige was not at all keen on undoing any of the work and bringing back Iron Man.

However, Downey was keen on making a return to the MCU. When the 59-year-old spoke to Esquire magazine after his Oscar win for Oppenheimer, he said:

“ [I would] Happily [return to the MCU]. It’s too integral a part of my DNA... That role chose me. And look, I always say, ‘Never, ever bet against Kevin Feige.’ It is a losing bet. He’s the house. He will always win.”

Feige seems to have won the 'losing bet" as Downey was officially unveiled as 'Doctor Doom'. He will feature in 'Avengers: Doomsday' which will introduce the character of Victor von Doom/Doctor Doom.

Another return for the MCU will be in the role of directors as Joe and Anthony Russo will be taking up direction for two Avengers movies including 'Doomsday' and 'Secret Wars'.
