"Not a fan of Carlos Alcaraz complaining"; "Turning into a proper moaner" - Fans slam Spaniard's "whiny" remarks on Paris Masters courts after 3R loss
Tennis fans online criticized Carlos Alcaraz for his comments regarding the courts at the 2024 Paris Masters following his third-round defeat in the tournament. The Spaniard's best performance at the ATP Masters 1000 hard court event was in 2022 when he reached the quarterfinals before withdrawing due to an injury.
Seeded second at the Paris Masters this year, Alcaraz started his campaign in the second round after receiving a first-round bye. He defeated Nicolas Jarry 7-5, 6-1 in the opening match before falling to the 15th seed, Ugo Humbert in the following round.
Following his loss, Carlos Alcaraz expressed his disappointment with the fast-paced nature of the courts in Paris and said:
"When I played the first match, the stats came out that it is the fastest court in the Masters 1000, probably on the tour right now. This is crazy. I don't know. Probably and the fastest one, you know, in the last ten years in this tournament," Carlos Alcaraz said.
The former World No.1 also expressed surprise at the speed of the courts and questioned the reasoning behind the design.
"I don't know why they do it. So it surprise me a little bit, so I came here with not too many days. Probably I had to come earlier to get used to these conditions but I didn't. But, you know, honestly all I can say is I don't understand why they did it," he added.
Tennis fans expressed their unhappiness with Carlos Alcaraz's complaints about the Paris Masters courts, with one fan saying it was important to have a "variety" of court surfaces.
"Isn’t it okay to have some variety tho? This indoor tennis, it should be fast. Like I said earlier, I’m not a fan of him complaining about the court conditions like this, I think he should adapt better and besides consistency has been a problem for him regardless of court speed," a fan posted.
"Turning into a proper moaner, just get on with it," a fan wrote.
Several fans pointed out that Carlos Alcaraz's complaints about the fast courts made him appear "whiny," questioning why the former World No.1 had not arrived in Paris earlier to practice on the courts.
"Fan of Alcaraz but his complaining of fast courts is whiny! Only fair there’s variety of court speeds across tour-Indian Wells slow/Paris fast. Lamely complains bc fast courts don’t suit his game. He should’ve arrived earlier to adapt but was at exhibition then rested at home," a fan posted.
"What’s the point getting shocked about how fast the courts are when you didn’t even arrive early enough to acclimatise and you were busy playing in jcf academy’s garage courts after your appointment at victorbarber’s," another fan added.
A fan also noted that other players were competing on the same courts without complaining like Carlos Alcaraz.
"Does he know that the other players are playing on the same courts? Sounds like sour grapes to me!" a fan posted.
"If another player was whining this much. We would be all over them. There are so many other players in your, the courts should be slowed down because of Alcaraz?" a fan wrote.
"I love you carlos but why always complaining ? It a tsitsipas things," a fan posted.
