"Not a matter of being arrogant" - Andy Roddick and wife Brooklyn Decker playfully argue as she claims she can challenge son Hank at wiffle ball
Andy Roddick and his wife Brooklyn Decker indulged in a light-hearted argument over Brooklyn participating in their son Hank's wiffle ball competition in school. The former World No. 1 did not believe that his wife could compete against their son, Hank.
Roddick saw Brooklyn Decker for the first time while she was hosting a show for Sports Illustrated in 2007. The tennis star asked his attorney to call her agent and get in touch with her. However, the 2003 US Open champion did not get a call back from Brooklyn until she was advised by her manager to reach out to Roddick.
The couple started dating in 2007 before getting engaged a year later. In April 2009, the two got married and have two kids, their elder son, Hank, and younger daughter Stevie.
In a video shared on Brooklyn's Instagram stories on October 26, the two were heard having a lighthearted argument over whether Brooklyn could play against Hank during his school's parent versus kids Wiffle ball game.
"Okay, so our kid has a parent versus kids Wiffle ball game on Satuday, and Hank our son was like 'I'm making mom play. She can't get out of this', and I told Andy like 'No problem. I will slide head first into a base', and Andy doesn't think I can do it. Andy doesn't think I can play wiffle ball with the kids," Brooklyn said.
Andy Roddick chimed in on the matter and said:
"Well no, I think you can, but you also said things like athletically and this isn't me exaggerating because I know I can tell a story. Tell me which part isn't true. 'Athletically, I can do anything I set my mind to.'"
"I think I can throw. That just required like floppiness, flexibility, and a little bit of determination. All of which I have," Deckers replied.
Roddick's wife further defended her athletic skills, saying:
"No, it's not a matter of like being arrogant or humble. It's a matter of like simply being determined and being like yeah, anything athletic that I needed to do I can figure out, no problem."
Andy Roddick and Brooklyn Decker shed light on their relationship
In an interview with GQ Sports in 2023, Andy Roddick opened up about his relationship with his wife, Brooklyn Deckers, and revealed how their relationship evolved after facing various adversities.
"I went from, 'I don't think I'm gonna get in a serious relationship forever,' and then we were engaged in, like, six months. And then we really got to know each other," Roddick said.
Further shedding light on their relationship, Roddick's wife said:
"With our relationship, I think that ego and insecurity about failing - and failing publicly - was very much a motivation to put our heads together and figure this out," Brooklyn Decker said.
Andy Roddick has won 32 singles titles, which includes his 2003 US Open victory against Juan Carlos Ferrero.
