Novak Djokovic is one of four players in tennis history to have held the record for the most weeks as the World No. 1 and year-end No. 1 finishes together.

Daniil Medvedev will dethrone Novak Djokovic from the World No. 1 spot on Monday. However, the Serb has enjoyed the top position in the ATP rankings for a total period of 361 weeks so far, a record on tour.

Most weeks at World No. 1:

361 - Djokovic
310 - Federer
286 - Sampras
270 - Lendl

He also ended the 2021 tennis season as the World No. 1 player, becoming the only player in the history of the sport to end seven different seasons as the World No. 1. The Serb broke the record of his idol, Pete Sampras, who finished six different seasons in the top spot.

Novak Djokovic is the first man ever to end a year as the World No.1 seven times.

Surpasses his hero, Pete Sampras, with 7-6 final set win over Hubert Hurkacz to reach Paris final.

Heck of an achievement.

As a result, the 20-time Grand Slam champion holds the record for most weeks at No. 1 and most year-end No. 1 finishes. Before him, Ilie Nastase, Jimmy Connors, and Pete Sampras also held the record simultaneously with 40. 268 and 286 weeks at the top, respectively.

While Rafael Nadal has held neither record in his career, Roger Federer set the record for the most weeks in the top position before Djokovic dethroned him in March 2021.

Novak is the only member of the big 3 to ever held the record of both (Year End No.1 + number of weeks at No.1)
Only 4 have ever achieved this fate

1-Ilie N膬stase 1 YE + 40 W
2-Jimmy Connors 5YE + 268 W
3-Pete Sampras 6YE + 286 W
4- @DjokerNole 7YE + 361 W

However, the Swiss maestro doesn't feature on the list since he only finished five different seasons as the World No. 1, thus trailing Sampras at all times.

Djokovic is also the only player in the history of the sport who has enjoyed the top position in the ATP rankings for more than 85 consecutive weeks on two different occasions.

The Serb's first stint came in 2014 when he climbed to the top spot for the third time in his career. He remained there for a period of 122 weeks before losing the spot to Andy Murray in November 2016.

.@DjokerNole kicks off his 360th career week at No. 1 today, and 85th straight week.

He's the first man in ATP rankings history to have two stints of 85+ straight weeks at No. 1 (he had a 122-week run at No. 1 from 2014 to 2016).

Djokovic returns to action in Dubai next week.

His second stint began when he won the Australian Open in 2020. It will end on Monday, when Daniil Medvedev takes over as World No. 1.

A reminder @DjokerNole has without doubt been the best player on planet in 2020
