Novak Djokovic will take on 23-year-old Aristotelis Thanos as Serbia face Greece in the Davis Cup World Group 1. Several fans were amused by Thanos' name, referencing it to the antagonist in Marvel's Avengers series.
Djokovic will play two singles fixtures in the World Group 1, the first of which will be against Ioannis Xilas. He will then take on Thanos, after his doubles match against Demetris Azoides and Petros Tsitsipas, while partnering with Hamad Medjedovic. It will be the Serb's first tennis outing after his third-round exit at the US Open.
Several fans reacted to the 37-year-old's opponent, with many making Avengers references. One said that Djokovic is now doing "side missions".

One fan jokingly said that Thanos looked like rapper Eminem.
"I thought that was Eminem at first glance," the fan stated.

Novak Djokovic helped Serbia reach the semifinals of Davis Cup 2023
Novak Djokovic represented Serbia in the Davis Cup Finals in 2023 and played just two matches in the group stage. The 24-time Grand Slam champion beat Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 6-3, 6-4 before losing a doubles fixture 5-7, 7-6(7) [10-3] to Tomas Machac and Adam Pavlasek while partnering with Nicola Cacic.
Serbia qualified for the quarterfinals, where it faced Great Britain. Djokovic's 6-4, 6-4 win over Cameron Norrie saw his team seal a 2-0 win and book its place in the semifinals.
Here, Serbia faced Italy and led 1-0 after Miomir Kecmanovic beat Lorenzo Musetti. Djokovic then locked horns with Jannik Sinner, and the latter won 6-2, 2-6, 7-5. Italy eventualy won the tie after Sinner and Lorenzo Sonego triumphed 6-3, 6-4 over Djokovic and Kecmanovic.
