Top seed Novak Djokovic will face third seed Daniil Medvedev in the semifinals of the Dubai Tennis Championships on Friday.
This will be the 14th meeting between the two, with Djokovic leading 9-4 in the head-to-head. The two last met in the final four of the Adelaide International 1 in January, with Djokovic winning 6-3, 6-4.
The Serb has been in terrific form lately, and entered the Dubai Tennis Championships as the top seed. He started the ATP 500 event with a 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(1) win over Tomas Machac before beating Tallon Griekspoor 6-2, 6-3 in the second round. In the quarters, he beat Hubert Hurkacz 6-3, 7-5 to seal his place in the semifinals.
Daniil Medvedev has also looked in very good form recently, winning back-to-back titles in Rotterdam and Doha. The Russian started the Dubai Tennis Championships with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Matteo Arnaldi. He then defeated Alexander Bublik by the same scoreline to reach the quarterfinals.
Medvedev took on eighth seed Borna Coric in the last eight and triumphed 6-3, 6-2 to book his place in the semifinals of the tournament.
Djokovic is yet to lose a match in 2023, and will enter the semifinal as the favorite. But Medvedev is among the very best players on hardcourts, and will be brimming with confidence after his tournament wins in Rotterdam and Doha. The Russian has beaten Djokovic before and is more than capable of giving him a run for his money.
Whoever wins the match will face either defending champion Andrey Rublev or Alexander Zverev in the final of the Dubai Tennis Championships.
