24-time Major champion Novak Djokovic will square off against Lorenzo Musetti in the semifinals of Wimbledon 2024 on Friday, July 12. The Serb received a free pass into the last four after Alex de Minaur gave him a walkover. The latter sustained an injury which left him unable to compete in their quarterfinal clash.
The Serb previously beat Vit Kopriva, Jacob Fearnley, Alexei Popyrin, and Holger Rune in the first four rounds. He matched his former rival Roger Federer's record of 13 semifinals at the All England Club by making it this far. He could also equal the Swiss' haul of eight titles at the venue should he prevail in Sunday's final.
Musetti dug deep to overcome Taylor Fritz in five sets to reach his maiden Major semifinal. It hasn't been an easy journey for him to make it this far at SW19 as none of his matches were routine affairs. However, the Italian has been in fine form the entire grass swing, and has risen to the occasion when it mattered.
Djokovic leads Musetti 5-1 in the head-to-head. Their most recent encounter took place a few weeks ago at the French Open, which was a five-set tussle that went the Serb's way. This will be the pair's first meeting on grass. The Italian's only win in this match-up came at the 2023 Monte-Carlo Masters in three sets.
