"One of the few players who'd be more angrier than me" - Serena Williams pays hilarious tribute to Andy Murray after Wimbledon farewell

Serena Williams is the latest of the former tennis stars to pay tribute to the illustrious career of Andy Murray. However, the American's tribute had a funny twist as she explained why she enjoyed watching the Brit play.

Murray withdrew from the singles event at Wimbledon, citing a recent back surgery. He took part in the men's doubles event with his brother Jamie but the pair lost in their first-round encounter on July 4. After the match, Murray was honored with a special and emotional farewell ceremony.

Murray is expected to grace the Wimbledon grounds one more time with Emma Raducanu in the mixed doubles event. However, messages from current and former players have poured in for the 37-year-old for his illustrious career, including three Grand Slam titles.

Williams took to X (formerly Twitter) to post a video in which she spoke highly of the Brit. However, she started her speech with a cheeky touch.

"Congratulations to you Andy Murray for such an incredible career. I have to say I have always enjoyed watching you," Serena Williams said. [from 0:00]
"One of the main reasons, cause you were one of the few players who would be more angrier than me on the court, which is a very hard thing to do... And you may have been a little... like an attitude just like mine, let's just say [laughs]. To me, it was the most exciting thing to watch," she added.

Murray is at his most animated when on the court. His most recent outbursts included an angry rant toward the chair umpire during the Miami Open earlier this year. He even smashed his racquet multiple times during his loss against Alex de Minaur at the Paris Masters in October 2023.

Serena Williams and Andy Murray joined forces in 2019 when they played the mixed doubles event at Wimbledon. The American recalled that moment and called it one of the 'highlights' of her life.

"I have had the pleasure of playing mixed doubles next to you by your side, which was such a fantastic experience, to do that, at Wimbledon, nonetheless. It was really one of the highlights of my life," she said.

The pair were clinical in their first two matches. However, their run ended in the Round of 16 with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 defeat against top seeds Bruno Soares and Nicole Melichar.
