"Our son is great and makes me want to have more kids" - Sloane Stephens on her 'easy' transition to becoming a stepmom to husband Jozy Altidore's son
Sloane Stephens has opened up about her experience of transitioning to a stepmom to Cameron, her husband Jozy Altidore's son from a previous relationship. The 2017 US Open champion married Altidore, who is also a professional soccer player, in 2022, having got engaged three years before.
Stephens and Altidore had gone separate ways after the former moved from Florida's Boca Prep International School, where the latter was her senior. However, in 2016, the pair reconnected, and it didn't take long for their romance to bloom. Since marrying Altidore, Stephens has been Cameron's stepmom.
In a recent interview with Cosmopolitan, the former World No. 3 said that her bond with 9-year-old Cameron makes her want to have more children.
"Yes, our son (Cameron) is nine and he's great and makes me want to have more kids," Stephens said.
Stephens touched on her "easy transition" to the stepmom role as well. According to the 2017 US Open champion, it was her profound love for children that made the switch simple for her.
"I always knew I wanted to be a mom and have a big family. I love kids, so for me, becoming a stepmom was a very easy transition," Stephens added.
In a bid to ensure that motherhood does not get in the way of her tennis career, Stephens chose to freeze her eggs in 2022. Cosmopolitan has reported that the former World No. 3 is intent on doing another round after the conclusion of the ongoing tennis season.
"I didn't feel much pain at all" - Sloane Stephens on 2022 egg-freezing experience
In the same interview, Stephens came clean on the experience she had during the egg-freezing process back in 2022. According to the 31-year-old, despite "bloating" and appearing "eight months pregnant", there was no major issue with how things went.
"It's obviously not easy, but I didn't feel much pain at all. I did the injections for 12 days during my offseason, and I was bloated and I looked like I was eight months pregnant. I hung out, I did everything that I would have normally done," Stephens said.
On the tennis front, Stephens is set to kickstart her 2024 grass-court campaign at the Birmingham Classic against Yue Yuan. Ranked World No. 48 right now, Stephens will be hopeful of improving on her dismal showing at the French Open, where she was ousted from both singles and doubles in the first round.
