Paris Olympics 2024: Iga Swiatek the heavy favorite to bag the gold medal followed by Coco Gauff, Mirra Andreeva and Naomi Osaka among the top picks
The Paris Olympics 2024 will get underway in a few days, with the tennis events set to take place from July 27 to August 4. After a brief hiatus, players will be back in action on the clay courts of Roland Garros.
When the French Open concluded last month, Iga Swiatek capped off a successful title defense for a three-peat and her fourth title at the venue. Hands down the greatest player on clay of her generation, she's the bookies' favorite to claim the gold medal in women's singles.
While Swiatek bowed out in the third round of Wimbledon, she will be keen to resume her winning ways with the topmost honors at the Paris Olympics. Currently on a 19-match winning streak on clay, she has -250 odds as per betting site FanDuel to secure the gold medal.
Coco Gauff is next in line with +650 odds. She has a pretty good track record at the venue, having made the semifinals this year, the quarterfinals last year, and the final in 2022. She was beaten by Swiatek on all three occasions. Should the Pole suffer an early exit, the 20-year-old will be the best bet to go for gold.
World No. 4 Elena Rybakina has +1100 odds to win the entire thing. She recently reached the semifinals of Wimbledon and came in fourth place at the Tokyo Olympics. Teen sensation Mirra Andreeva, who made the last four at the French Open, has +1800 odds to capture the gold medal.
Naomi Osaka has been given +1800 odds as well. While clay isn't her strongest suit, she gave Swiatek a tough fight at the French Open last month. She even held a match point but lost their second-round contest in three sets.
Jasmine Paolini and Barbora Krejcikova among the other favorites to go all the way at the Paris Olympics
Jasmine Paolini, the runner-up at this year's French Open and Wimbledon, has +2400 odds to taste success at the Paris Olympics. Barbora Krejcikova's triumph at the All England Club has seen her rise rapidly among the list of title contenders. The Czech +2900 odds of grabbing the gold medal.
Zheng Qinwen defended her title in Palermo last week to begin her prep for the Paris Olympics on a strong note. A finalist at this year's Australian Open, she has +2900 odds to win the gold.
Elina Svitolina is the only medalist from the previous edition of the Olympics to be present for this edition. Belina Bencic, who won the gold medal last time, is away on maternity leave, while silver medalist Marketa Vondrousova withdrew due to an injury. The Ukrainian, who nabbed the bronze medal, has +3600 odds to better her result this time around.
