PICTURE: Caroline Wozniacki's baby son James emulates her; adorably shows off his "first" tennis racket
Former World No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki shared a cute picture of her with son James playing with his "first" tennis racket at home. The toddler was born on October 24, 2022, and will turn two this month.
Wozniacki was last seen competing at the US Open, where she reached the fourth round. She cruised past Renata Zarazua and Jessika Ponchet in the first two rounds, but couldn't make her mark against Beatriz Haddad Maia. The Brazilian outlasted her in three sets 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.
The Dane is yet to feature on tour following her promising stint in New York.
On Monday, she shared an adorable picture on her Instagram stories of her son holding his new Babolat tennis racket along with a tennis ball in his hand. She captioned it,
"I would say James likes his first racket"
Wozniacki tied the knot with former NBA All-Star David Lee in 2019. The couple have two children, daughter Olivia, who is three years old, and son James, who turns two this year.
Lee played for the Florida Gators in college basketball and later went on to represent five teams in the NBA. He famously won the Championship with the Golden State Warriors in 2015 and was also a two-time NBA All-Star during his career.
Lee shared a wholesome message for Wozniacki during Mother's Day this year, saying he felt lucky to have the Dane by his side. He posted a picture on behalf of their children Olivia and James, and said:
"You are the best Mom to us and today we celebrate you! Thanks for always taking the time to be patient with us and love us unconditionally , no matter how crazy we act! We are so lucky that you are our mom forever and we love you so much ❤️❤️- Olivia and James"
"Should be more done for women coming back from maternity leave" - When Caroline Wozniacki called on WTA to support players after childbirth
Caroline Wozniacki made a successful return to tennis following her maternity leave last year. She wasted no time in finding her rhythm and reached the fourth round of the 2023 US Open, where she lost to Coco Gauff in a close three-set encounter.
Speaking in June this year, the former Australian Open champion urged the WTA to help players willing to compete again after their maternity leave. She spoke about the changes that women go through following child-birth, and added they need more time to prepare themselves for the main tour. Wozniacki said.
"I think I’ve been treated very well, The tournaments have really embraced me coming back and with kids. Where I do share my view, and where a lot of other women on tour share the view, is I think there should be more done for women coming back from maternity leave.
"It has been looked at because obviously there’s more players now that want to come back but, at the same time, it’s not the same as coming back from an injury. As someone who came back after almost four years, I think when you give birth and for the body to recover, you’ve grown a human inside you, there’s a lot of changes that are happening in the body after that. I think in general women deserve more time to feel, ‘OK, now I’m ready, I can really prepare and get ready for competing at the highest level.’"
Former Grand Slam champions Kim Clijsters and Serena Williams also returned to the women's tour after having a baby. While Williams did not win a Major after becoming a mother, Clijsters famously clinched the 2009 US Open a year after giving birth. She defeated Caroline Wozniacki in the final 7-5, 6-3 to lift the title in New York.
