PICTURE: Novak Djokovic all smiles as he poses with NBA star Bogdan Bogdanovic after leading Serbia to Davis Cup win over Greece
Novak Djokovic recently met up with NBA star Bogdan Bogdanovic following Serbia's victory over Greece in the Davis Cup World Group 1. The former World No.1 played a pivotal role in helping his nation win the tie and subsequently qualify for the tournament's qualifying round in 2025.
This comes after the Serb's disappointing campaign at the US Open, where he beat Radu Albot and compatriot Laslo Djere before suffering a four-set defeat to 28th seed Alexei Popyrin in the third round.
In the Davis Cup showdown, Serbia's Miomir Kecmanovic set the tone by defeating Greece's Aristotelis Thanos 6-3, 6-3, giving his country an early 1-0 lead. Djokovic then extended his country's advantage to 2-0 with a dominant victory over Ioannis Xilas, winning 6-0, 6-1.
With Serbia needing just one more win to secure a spot in the 2025 Davis Cup qualifiers, the 24-time Grand Slam champion teamed up with Hamad Medjedovic for the doubles match. After a hard-fought battle lasting two hours and 10 minutes, Djokovic and Medjedovic emerged victorious over the Greek duo of Aristotelis Thanos and Petros Tsitsipas, winning 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.
After Serbia's victory in the Davis Cup World Group 1 tie against Greece, Serbian basketball player Bogdan Bogdanovic, who was in attendance at the arena, had the opportunity to meet with Novak Djokovic. The official social media account of Davis Cup shared the picture of the two meeting each other.
Novak Djokovic: "My priorities are playing for the national team, everything else is less important"
Recently while speaking to the press, Novak Djokovic expressed that his current priorities are playing for Serbia and playing in the Grand Slam tournaments. He made it clear that, aside from these key events, other tournaments have become "less important" to him.
"My priorities are playing for the national team and Grand Slams, everything else is less important. Now I need a physical, mental, and emotional rest in order to decide what and how to proceed, how much and where," he said.
The Serb stated that he is no longer focused on chasing ATP world rankings or securing a spot in the ATP Finals, as he believes he has achieved everything in the other tournaments.
"I am not chasing a place on the ATP list, nor the Final Masters. Those are not my goals, honestly. As for me, I finished my career in other tournaments . I don't know if I will play them in the future or this year," he added .
Looking ahead, the former World No.1 will next compete in the 2024 Shanghai Masters, a tournament he has won a record four times - in 2012, 2013, 2015, and 2018. The ATP Masters 1000 event will also feature players such as Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, and Alexander Zverev, among others .
