Prize money 2024: Iga Swiatek leads Jannik Sinner, Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz & co midway through season
The 2024 tennis season has reached its halfway mark with Iga Swiatek leading her peers in terms of prize money earned. Notably, Novak Djokovic has not yet made it into the top 10 on this list.
Iga Swiatek recently completed her hat trick of French Open titles after sweeping Jasmine Paolini aside in the title contest on June 8. The WTA World No. 1 earned 2000 points and pocketed $2.4 million in prize money from the win.
The Pole has also earned from her victories at the WTA 1000 tournaments in Qatar ($523K), Indian Wells ($1.1 million), Madrid ($963K) and Rome ($699K). These have helped her bag the top spot in terms of 2024 prize money earnings as the season crosses its halfway mark. Her total earnings so far amount to $6.68 million.
Newly crowned ATP World No. 1 Jannik Sinner takes the No. 2 spot on the list, with $5.16 million earned as of now. The young Italian reigned supreme at the Australian Open, winning his first Grand Slam title, and was awarded $2.08 million. Sinner is also the title-holder at the Masters 1000 Miami Open ($1.1 million) and the ATP 500 Rotterdam Open ($429K).
Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz and Aryna Sabalenka complete the top 5 of this list as of June 10. Zverev has banked $4.63 million with a WTA 1000 Madrid Open title and runner-up finish at the French Open. Meanwhile, Alcaraz earned $4.52 million from his triumphs at the French Open and the Indian Wells Masters.
Aryna Sabalenka, the WTA World No. 2, defended her title at the Australian Open and was runner-up at the WTA 1000 Madrid Open and the Italian Open. As a result, she has pocketed $3.71 million thus far.
24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic, the highest-earning tennis player in 2023, finds himself on the No. 15 spot this year with earnings amounting to $1.85 million as of now. The Serb is yet to win a title on the 2024 ATP Tour.
Iga Swiatek to start 2024 grass swing at Berlin Open
Iga Swiatek is turning her attention to the grass swing of the WTA Tour, where the Pole is yet to find success. Last year, she had her best career performances on the surface with a semifinals appearance at the Bad Homburg Open and her maiden quarterfinal at Wimbledon.
Swiatek will begin her 2024 grass swing at the WTA 500 Berlin Open, played from June 15 to 23. This will be her debut at the tournament in Germany, which has a star-studded lineup this year with all of the top 10 players on the entry list, along with Grand Slam champions Naomi Osaka and Angelique Kerber, among others.
Defending champion Petra Kvitova will not participate as she is currently on a maternity break. As of now, the 2024 Berlin Open is the only grass court tournament before the Wimbledon Championships that Iga Swiatek has signed up for this year.
