"Roger Federer's a better role model than me" - Nick Kyrgios reacts to Karolina Muchova's praises after her victory over Naomi Osaka at US Open
Nick Kyrgios addressed the praise received from Karolina Muchova following her victory over Naomi Osaka at the 2024 US Open. After Muchova addressed him and Roger Federer as role models, the Australian tennis player emphasized that the Swiss maestro is a better pick.
Muchova ended Osaka's US Open comeback in the second round on Thursday at the Arthur Ashe Stadium. The Czechian dominated the two-time US Open champion with a 6-3, 7-6 (5) victory.
Following her triumph, Kyrgios, who was appointed as a courtside interviewer for ESPN in New York, praised her and asked if she draws inspiration from her childhood hero, Roger Federer.
“You hit some incredible volleys tonight. It was insane. Then I found out your childhood hero is Roger Federer. Did you take things from his game?” asked Kyrgios.
Muchova acknowledged the inspiration she gets from both Federer and him, stating she enjoys integrating their styles into her game.
“Yeah for sure. I watched him. I watched you.. all the guys doing these things and I really like it," Muchova said. "So I try to put it in my game. I just enjoy playing like this. It’s fun and that’s why I play. I’m glad I could pull off some nice shots today,” said Muchova.
The former Wimbledon runner-up later shared the interview, noting that the 20-time Grand Slam champion is a better role model than him.
"I think Federer is a better role model than me!! But thanks @karomuchova7," Kyrgios wrote.
