Rohan Bopanna-Matthew Ebden qualify for ATP Finals in back-to-back seasons
Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden have qualified for the ATP Finals for the second year in a row. The ATP Finals are scheduled in Turin, Italy, from November 10 to 17. Last year, the duo reached the semi-finals, losing to Spain’s Marcel Granollers and Argentina’s Horacio Zeballos in straight sets.
For the upcoming edition, Bopanna and Ebden sealed their spot after Nathaniel Lammons and Jackson Withrow crashed out of the men’s doubles in the Paris Masters 2024. It will be Bopanna’s fifth appearance in the ATP Finals after 2011 with Aism-ul-Haq Qureshi, 2012 with Mahesh Bhupathi, 2015 with Florin Mergea, and 2023 with Ebden.
Bopanna and Ebden qualified after winning the Australian Open and Miami Open, and finishing as the semi-finalists in the French Open at Roland Garros. The top eight doubles teams of the season will compete in the ATP Finals.
The other teams are Nikola Mektic & Wesley Koolholf, Tim Puetz & Kevin Krawietz, Henry Patten & Harri Heliovaara, Mate Pavic & Marcelo Arevalo, Horacio Zeballos & Marcel Granollers, Andrea Vavassori & Simone Boleli and Jordan Thompson & Max Purcell.
Rohan Bopanna-Matthew Ebden shine in Paris Masters
Bopanna and Ebden have formed a lethal pair and have shown their class in the ongoing Paris Masters. The Indo-Australian duo already sealed their berth in the quarterfinals after beating Germany’s Alexander Zverev and Brazil’s Marcelo Melo.
Bopanna and Ebden took an hour and 16 minutes to win the match 6-4, 7-6 (5) on Court 2. The pair dominated throughout to the extent that they did not give their opponents a single chance to break their serve, putting pressure on Zverev and Melo.
Although they failed to convert two break-point chances in the second set, Bopanna and Ebden made amends in the tie-breaker.
