"Sad to see Carlos Alcaraz hanging out with him" - Tennis fans react to Spaniard playing golf with Alexander Zverev amid abuse allegations

Alexander Zverev recently shared a picture of himself and Carlos Alcaraz playing golf. The meeting has drawn attention from tennis fans, with many urging Alcaraz to stay away from Zverev given the fresh abuse allegations leveled against the German.

Zverev has been accused of "bodily harm" by his ex-girlfriend, Brenda Patea, who is also the mother of his child. Based on this, the public prosecutor's office in Berlin has applied for a "penalty order."

This is the second time that the German has been accused of abuse by a partner. In 2019, his former girlfriend Olya Sharypova accused him of domestic abuse too.

Earlier this week Zverev and Alcaraz went golfing, and the former joked about having a chance of beating the World No. 1.

"I have good news everyone. We have a chance against him in golf," the German wrote on his Instagram story.

Soon after the post went up, tennis fans started to question Alcaraz for meeting the accused. Some fans even expressed their sadness at seeing the Spaniard voluntarily spend time with Zverev.

"Sad to see Carlos hanging out with him.. two women assaulted by Zverev," one fan wrote.

Some fans on Twitter also talked about Alexander Zverev's apparent strategy of making people forget about his abuse allegations by being with "likeable players."

"Zverev makes sure to make it known that he’s friends with all the likable players on tour so we can forget all the allegations against him," one fan wrote.

Fans also mocked Zverev's social media caption and hinted at him going to jail in the near future.

"The ‘bad’ news is that Carlos won’t be playing with you behind bars, Sascha," one fan wrote.

Below are a few more fan reactions:

I don’t take this too seriously. Medvedev spoke before about how Zverev tries to publicly corner the players into looking like buddies. How he would say in trophy ceremonies Daniil and his wife were his old friends.

Zverev has a PR strategy that I don’t assume others are in on twitter.com/thetennislette…
even better news would be if zverev was hit by a speeding car :/ twitter.com/thetennislette…
@TheTennisLetter Young Carlos needs to stay away from this alleged physical abuser of women.

i guess i have to unstan him too now 😢 Daniil Medvedev and Casper Ruud the only men left in the atp i trust 🙏🏼 twitter.com/thetennislette…
Oh, this is a really bad look for Carlos… gotta know better than that twitter.com/thetennislette…
Carlos get away from him 😭 twitter.com/thetennislette…

At the Canadia Open, Zverev will take on Tallon Griekspoor in the first round of the tournament. The former World No. 2 last played at the Canadian Open in 2019, where he lost to Karen Khachanov in the quarterfinals.

Carlos Alcaraz, on the other hand, has received a bye in the first round and hence will kick off his campaign in the second round. The World No. 1 will face either Ben Shelton or Bernabe Zapata Miralles in his opener.
