Serena Williams amps up her fitness routine with a cycling challenge
Serena Williams hit the streets on her bike, focusing on boosting her fitness. The 43-year-old mother of two has been away from professional tennis for over two years but continues to prioritize her fitness routine.
Williams took to Instagram to share two videos of herself cycling, dressed in a black Nike jacket, a cap, and a helmet. In the first video, she rode at a decent pace, focused on her surroundings.
The second video showed her panting after what appeared to be a tiring session. Despite her fatigue, she still had a lot of energy left as she remarked:
"Here we go, another couple sprints!"
Williams tied the knot with Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian in 2017 just months after the couple welcomed their first daughter, Olympia. In 2023, their second daughter, Adira, was born.
Post-retirement, the 23-time Grand Slam winner handles multiple ventures. However, she continues to prioritize her fitness.
"As a mom, I’m actually way more active than what I was during tennis" - Serena Williams on her post-retirement phase
Serena Williams explained during a candid interview on TODAY with Hoda & Jenna in April 2024 how, as a mom, she is more active than she was during her playing career.
“As a mom, I’m actually way more active than what I was during tennis,” the 42-year-old said on TODAY with Hoda & Jenna. “Obviously, (with) tennis, I was playing Wimbledons and stuff. But, as a mom, I’m gone all day."
Williams is also a fan of cycling, but more specifically, of the peloton bike.
“Those Peloton people are so inspirational!” she told Self in 2021. “They’ll be like ‘If you can get through this, you can get through your day, so you gotta do it!’ I’m like ‘I got you! I’m here!’”
Williams' active lifestyle as a mother is a world apart from her days on the tennis circuit, where winning matches was everything. She made headlines in 2017 when she won the Australian Open, her record-breaking 23rd Grand Slam title, while nine weeks pregnant with her daughter, Olympia. This incredible feat showcased her commitment to staying fit even during pregnancy.
Since stepping away from the pro tennis scene after the 2022 US Open, Williams' fitness journey is more aligned with her life as a mom. However, she’s still all about staying active, whether she’s out cycling or doing HIIT workouts.
