Serena Williams comes out as a Taylor Swift fan alongside daughter Olympia

Serena Williams' eldest daughter Olympia is very much a fan of Taylor Swift. In fact, the American has revealed that she likes listening to the pop icon more than playing with princess dolls, much like herself.

At HubSpot's annual gathering in Boston to podcast host Kara Swisher, Williams opened up about her family and parenting style. Touching on the topic of her seven-year-old daughter Olympia and her tastes at the moment, she said:

“My daughter just turned 7. She’s not into princesses, she’s into Taylor Swift. I am, too.”

Olympia was born in 2017, with Williams being pregnant with her when winning the Australian Open title that year. The 23-time Grand Slam champion and her husband Alexis Ohanian became parents to their second child in 2023, a daughter whom they named Adira River.

At the gathering, Serena Williams also spoke about the impact of social media on her children and how she tries to protect them from a 'scary' digial world. The former World No. 1 confessed that she and her husband were urging Olympia to 'take it slow' with smart devices, just so she could enjoy being a kid for longer.

“It’s a scary world. It’s a digital world for kids right now. I’m always on with my daughter, but we don't allow her on certain platforms,” Serena Williams said.
“It's so interesting that with everything available online and the access that kids have — in a second, you never know what can come to them. Like I said, I'm trying to think positively. I feel like we might try to take it slow with her and go a little bit slower with electronics, and just let her be a kid for as long as you can," she added.

In an interview with Jenna Bush Hager earlier this year, Serena Williams revealed the best parenting advice she received after becoming a mother of two daughters.

Williams recalled how she was told to spend more time with her eldest child, seeing as they are the kid who will remember the interaction with the parent more.

"Someone gave me the best advice, they said, 'Spend more time with the oldest cause they'll remember,' " Williams continued.
"Isn't that the best advice? But I do. Because the little one won't remember. So whenever Olympia's home, I'm with her. And then Adira, I'm just like, 'Okay...' I pretend like I don't know her as much."

Serena Williams, now retired, continues to travel the world as a business entrepreneur, speaking at various forums and advocating for more diversity and inclusivity in the industry.
