Serena Williams hilariously trolls sister Venus Williams, says she will stop hanging out with her because she is a bad influence

Serena Williams shared a quote about how a spoiled fruit can affect its surroundings and playfully linked it to her older sister, Venus Williams. Despite her well-known admiration for Venus, Serena humorously trolled her in the post.

Serena took to her Instagram story to share a post from @garyvee. The post featured an image of oranges, one of which is spoiled completely, and the one next to it also looks on the verge of getting spoiled. The post consisted of a quote:

"Who you surround yourself with matters."

The idea behind the quote is that surrounding yourself with negative influences can affect you negatively, much like how the completely spoiled fruit spoiled one of the others close to it.

Serena humorously added her own caption to the Story:

"Noted. Will stop hanging out with @venuswilliams"

The younger sister was just playfully trolling her elder sibling as she used an emoji with its tongue out. She was not seriously suggesting that her sister was a bad influence.

Serena Williams was awarded the Glamour Woman of the Year 2024 award and she received congratulatory messages from her sister Venus Williams and husband Alexis Ohanian.

In her cover story for Glamour, Serena acknowledged that she was still "codependent" with Venus and would not want it any other way.

“I mean, I grew up with girls. I’d honestly never been around boys unless I was dating one. And sisters are so special. Some things never change. I don’t even want to not be codependent with her [Venus Williams]. I love her. I don’t want our lives to ever be separate,” Serena said.

Serena reflected on the challenges of tennis, describing how "lonely" it can be as players are traveling for most of the year. She emphasized the importance of having someone to rely on, and for her, that was Venus.

"We were successful, and we were Black . We leaned on each other. We lived together . We lived together until a year before I had Olympia, so literally our whole lives," she added.

Serena and Venus are still spotted together regularly at events. This year, they attended the ESPY Awards, the Gucci - Men's Spring Summer 2025 Fashion Show, and the Met Gala.
