Serena Williams' husband Alexis Ohanian celebrates success of his women's soccer show 'The Offseason' as 1st episode garners 10+ million views in days
Serena Williams' husband Alexis Ohanian is a co-producer on a women's soccer show titled 'The Offseason' which premiered on October 18. The first episode of the show has garnered over 10 million views and Ohanian celebrated its success.
'The Offseason' is a reality TV show which follows 11 players of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) during their off-season. It follows them over a period of two weeks where they live together in Miami.
According to a statement from Ohanian, the show provides “uncensored access to their personal stories, interpersonal relationships, and on-field journey.” Interestingly, it is an X-exclusive series - a decision Ohanian believes revolves around the greater creative control the platform offers.
The first episode of the show was released on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, October 18. The 29-minute episode has gone viral on the platform as it garnered over 18 million views as of October 22.
When the episode reached 10 million views, Ohanian celebrated the success of the show on his Instagram Story. He posted an image of the tweet showing 10 million views and wrote:
"10,000,000 are you serious???"
Serena Williams' husband Alexis Ohanian specifically targeted his investment in women's sports with 'The Offseason'
Serena Williams' husband Alexis Ohanian is a vocal supporter of women's sports. He co-founded the NWSL club Angel City FC before investing in a women's soccer show.
In an interview with Variety, Ohanian explained that he was questioned when he invested in a women's soccer club and again when he invested in a women's soccer show which helped him realize he was on the right path.
“It was a radical idea in 2019 for me to start an NWSL club in LA, and in 2023, everyone in Hollywood told me it was a radical idea to incubate a production company and unscripted show like ‘The Offseason,’ which makes me think we’re already on the right track,” Ohanian said in a statement.
“All of the most successful reality TV shows feature women, and with Midge’s vision & these acclaimed producers’ execution, everyone is going to realize women’s sports was an obvious vehicle all along. Someone just had to be first.”
Alex Baskin, reality TV producer behind 'Vanderpump Rules,' partnered with Reddit co-founder Ohanian, soccer star Midge Purce, and Box to Box Films, known for the hit F1 show 'Drive to Survive,' to produce the sports docuseries 'The Offseason.'
Episode 2 of the X-exclusive show will air on Friday, October 25, with new episodes released every Friday thereafter on X.
