Serena Williams' husband Alexis Ohanian educates 7-year-old daughter Olympia on the importance of voting ahead of US elections

Serena Williams' husband Alexis Ohanian voted early ahead of the 2024 presidential elections on November 5. Ohanian also explained to his seven-year-old daughter the importance of voting and how far the USA has come.

On Friday (Nov. 1), Ohanian took to his Instagram story to inform his followers that he had voted. He said:

“Alright, go vote, feels good.”

Later, he uploaded the same video as a Reel and in the caption shared that his daughter Olympia asked him about voting. The Reddit co-founder explained to his young daughter that the United States is a relatively young country in the grand scheme of history, with a political system that is still evolving.

"Olympia's big question last night was about voting and I explained what a miraculous (YOUNG) experiment our republic is in the timeline of humanity (and we didn't get it perfect from the start but we are always working to improve it - like fighting to make sure girls -- especially Black girls like her -- could vote) and how RARE a society with prolonged free and fair elections AND peaceful transitions of power is. Do not take these for granted," Ohanian captioned his Reel.

Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian welcomed their daughter Olympia in September 2017 and months later, the couple tied the knot. In August 2023, their younger daughter Adira was born.

Williams and Ohanian have previously opened up about their varying stance on voting.

In a 2008 interview with The New York Times, Serena Williams reflected on her upbringing as a Jehovah's Witness, which led her to stay out of political matters. However, at the time, she expressed excitement about Barack Obama having the opportunity to lead a major nation.

She noted how remarkable it is to consider the struggles and "persecution" faced just 30 or 40 years earlier, and how this progress brings her joy.

At the French Open in 2016, Williams reaffirmed her stance on voting. She told reporters:

"I don't get involved in politics. I don't vote. It goes back to my religion, and I'm not involved at all in that political scene.”

Meanwhile, Williams' husband, Alexis Ohanian, is involved in politics. In 2023, he explained why voting matters.

"Who you vote for matters. And it's more important than ever that the folks in office are at least proficient in technology and are spending time with builders to understand the potential paths so that we can get the best possible outcome for America & humanity," Ohanian wrote on X.

The 2024 presidential election features Republican candidate Donald Trump and Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, along with several other contenders.
