Serena Williams' husband Alexis Ohanian has shared his perspective on the 2024 US presidential election. Ohanian made the eye-opening remark as the intensely close race between Democratic nominee Kamala Harris and Republican candidate Donald Trump on November 5, headed towards a nail-biting finish.
As vote counting commenced, Trump held onto the traditionally Republican states like Texas, Louisiana, and Nebraska while also winning the key swing states of Georgia and North Carolina. Harris, meanwhile, secured the typical Democratic bases like California and New York while losing ground in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Nevada, where vote counts are still underway.
At the time of writing, Donald Trump held a 247-214 lead over Kamala Harris, closing in on the 270-point mark in the electoral college to be re-elected as US President.
Alexis Ohanian recently cast his ballot, proudly showing off his 'I voted' sticker as he urged his followers to do the same. As the results came in, Ohanian took to social media and asserted that there were important lessons to be learned from this election.

After casting his vote in the 2024 US presidential election, Serena Williams' husband Alexis Ohanian took the time to ensure that their daughter Olympia learned the importance of voting.
Ohanian recounted teaching the seven-year-old about the "miraculous" nature of the American democracy and the ongoing fight to ensure that Black girls like her were represented fairly.
"Olympia's big question last night was about voting and I explained what a miraculous (YOUNG) experiment our republic is in the timeline of humanity (and we didn't get it perfect from the start but we are always working to improve it," Serena Williams' husband said.
"Like fighting to make sure girls -- especially Black girls like her -- could vote) and how RARE a society with prolonged free and fair elections AND peaceful transitions of power is. Do not take these for granted," he added.
Alexis Ohanian recently also bonded with his and Serena Williams' daughter Olympia over their weekly pancake tradition, delighting in the seven-year-old calling him 'Brawny Smurf' as he created Smurfette pancake art for her.
