"Should I even be playing tennis in them?" - John McEnroe's daughter Emily features as a tennis player in an amusing new commercial
Emily McEnroe, daughter of legendary tennis player John McEnroe, will be featured as a tennis player in an amusing new commercial.
Emily is the daughter of the American tennis great from his first marriage to famous Hollywood actress Tatum O’Neal. She has left no stone unturned in establishing herself in the entertainment industry as an actor.
She made her acting debut in a 2022 sci-fi movie called “Futra Days” and has also appeared in a documentary about her father. She also works as a voice actor.
Emily will be working in partnership with Darner Socks, a leading sock brand, for the commercial.
A sneak-peek of the commercial, titled 'Game, Socks, Match' was released on Instagram by Darner Socks.
"Hi, I am Emily McEnroe and I love my Darner Socks. They are my favorite and they are the best. Does the socks make me a better player? No. Should I even be playing tennis in them? Probably not, no," she is seen saying in the ad.
Emily and John McEnroe to perform at Indian Wells
Emily McEnroe and her father John McEnroe will also be performing at the ongoing BNP Paribas Open, also known as the Indian Wells Masters tournament.
The father-daughter duo will be performing together on Saturday, March 11.
"If you are at Indian Wells Tennis Tournament in Palm Springs this Saturday, you can catch Emily and her father performing together. McEnroe's band takes the stage from 4.30 pm to 5.30 pm. Enjoy," Darner Socks posted on Instagram.
In an interview from 2018, John McEnroe spoke in detail about the struggles faced by his kids, due to being seen as the children of a tennis legend.
The American, who has three kids with his first wife Tatum O’Neal and two step-children with his current wife Patty Smyth, spoke about not understanding his children well enough.
McEnroe's wish was that his children made their own career choices, without facing the burden of being “John McEnroe’s kid.” The 7-time Grand Slam singles title winner said he did not realize that raising kids could be somewhat overwhelming. He felt that it would be tough for him to see his kids having a hard time living up to expectations.
“I would like to hope that it’s a good problem to have (being a celebrity child), but I don’t think I was as sympathetic as I could’ve been. I sort of didn’t realize that [it] can be somewhat overwhelming and I think it continues to be, in a way. It’s tougher for me to see my kids feel like they have a hard time living up to my expectations.
"One of the reasons why I really pushed my kids away from tennis is ‘cause I didn’t want them to have to live up to sort of ‘you gotta be better than John McEnroe’ and in addition to the fact that it all be ‘There’s McEnroe’s kid, how does he act?’” he had said.
John McEnroe married Tatum O'Neal in 1986. The pair, however, separated in 1994. Both parties accused one another of drug abuse during their divorce, which attracted the attention of both their fans and the media.
