“Shout out to the haters, I don't hear you anymore” - Taylor Townsend blasts hecklers at US Open 2024 after QF victory with Donald Young
Taylor Townsend and Donald Young put up a fantastic show in the quarterfinals of the mixed doubles at the US Open. The duo walked away with a 6-7(3), 6-3, [10-8] victory over opponents Anna Danilina and Harri Heliovaara, and the American had a stern message for some hecklers in the crowd after their win.
Both Townsend and Young have displayed impressive performances on the courts of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, entering the mixed doubles event on the back of a wildcard entry. From there, they have systematically worked their way through the draw, taking down Asia Muhammad/Andres Molteni in their opening round, before getting the better of Nadiia Kichenok/Hugo Nys.
In the quarterfinals, they took on Danilina and Heliovaara in front of a packed stadium, with a certain group of fans in the stands rooting against the Americans. Taylor Townsend was quick to call out the armchair critics in an on-court interview after the match, saying:
“Shout out to the haters in that corner over there, they're gone. Where are you? I don't hear you anymore. It's okay, it's okay. They're gone, I don't hear them anymore.”
Outside of the ‘haters’ though, both Townsend and Young enjoyed the atmosphere at the US Open, with the former telling the crowd:
“You guys are lit, thank you.”
Young echoed his partner’s sentiment, saying:
“You guys definitely pulled us through.”
Taylor Townsend’s next match at the US Open
After her quarterfinals victory in the mixed doubles at the US Open, Taylor Townsend will now be looking to replicate that performance in the women's doubles. The 28-year-old, alongside partner Katerina Siniakova, will take on Luisa Stefani and Demi Schuurs in the women's doubles quarterfinals. The match is scheduled to take place on (or after) 12:30 PM local time on Tuesday, September 3.
Townsend and Siniaková have had a strong run at the competition so far. For their first match, they took down Italy's Lucia Bronzetti and Liudmila Samsonova over the course of two hours. They were then handed a walkover before squaring off against Asia Muhammad and Heather Watson in the round of 16, beating them 6-1, 5-7, 7-5.
Outside of her women's doubles quarterfinals, Taylor Townsend also has her mixed doubles semifinals with Donald Young to look forward to. The duo will square off against Rohan Bopanna and Aldila Sutjiadi on Wednesday, September 4, for a spot in the final.
