Simona Halep vows to 'take it slow' and return stronger despite Hong Kong Open comeback loss

Simona Halep remains optimistic following her loss in her comeback tournament at the Hong Kong Open. She expressed her determination to maintain her confidence and is committed to returning stronger by taking things at her own pace.

The past two years have been challenging for Halep, as she faced a doping controversy that cost her nearly two valuable years of her career. She made her return to the main Tour at the Miami Open this year but lost in the first round to Paula Badosa.

The Romanian's next match at the highest level came at the Hong Kong Open on Monday, October 28, following her recovery from a knee injury. She faced China's Yung Yae and lost 6-3, 6-3. Despite the defeat, she felt her performance was decent, crediting her opponent for playing better on the day.

"My level was not bad at all but the opponent played really well and had confidence. I'm not happy with the way I played but it was much better than the previous match," she said (via BBC). 

Simona Halep also mentioned that her future plans largely depend on the number of wild cards she can secure and how well her body holds up.

"It depends on the wildcards, but I just want to work harder because I need a stronger body to perform at this level. I will take it slow. I have to give myself patience and try to get better day by day," the World 883 added.
