"Sleeping with good company" - Paula Badosa jokes about Coco Gauff poster above her bed, American hilariously promises not to give her 'nightmares'
Paula Badosa and Coco Gauff exchanged hilarious banter over the Spaniard falling asleep with a poster of the American watching over her. Both players are enjoying some time off after their campaigns at the 2024 US Open.
Gauff was the defending champion at the US Open, but she faltered in her quest for her second Grand Slam title. Despite her poor run of form at the Canadian Open and Cincinnati Open before the New York Major, the American made a promising start to her title defense, dropping just one set en route to the fourth round.
However, Emma Navarro halted her compatriot's campaign in the Round of 16, claiming a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 win over the 20-year-old. Subsequently, Navarro also ended Badosa's bid for her maiden Grand Slam title, beating the Spaniard 6-2, 7-5 in the quarterfinals.
While enjoying some downtime after the New York Major, Paula Badosa shared a picture of her hotel room and poked fun at the poster of Coco Gauff hanging over her bed.
"Sleeping with good company 😂😂😂😂❤️," Badosa posted on her Instagram story.
Gauff shared a witty response, hilariously promising not to give the Spaniard any "nightmares."
"Hahaha 🤣 promise not to give you any nightmares lolll," Gauff responded.
"You are such a strong woman! I’m really happy for you" - Paula Badosa congratulates Aryna Sabalenka on her maiden US Open triumph
Following Paula Badosa and Coco Gauff's exits from the 2024 US Open, Aryna Sabalenka clinched her maiden title at the New York Major with a hard-fought 7-5, 7-5 win over Jessica Pegula in the final.
Badosa congratulated her close friend on social media, hailing the Belarusian as an inspiration. The Spaniard also playfully requested that Sabalenka leave some trophies for other players, especially her.
"Believe it. Crazy achievement! You are such a strong woman! I’m really happy for you! You inspire so many people (also me🥹) ps: please leave a bit for the rest… (specially me😂) Enjoy it enjoy it! You deserve it❤️❤️❤️," Badosa posted on X.
Sabalenka expressed her gratitude for Badosa's message, joking that she would set aside a few trophies but only for the Spaniard.
"Thank you so much baby ❤️ ahah I will, but only for you😂," Sabalenka responded.
Paula Badosa, Aryna Sabalenka, and Coco Gauff will all be back in action at the 2024 China Open, scheduled to commence on September 25. They will feature in a star-studded lineup, as the entire top 20 is set to compete at the WTA 1000 event in Beijing.
