Sloane Stephens, Jessica Pegula, Taylor Townsend & other American WTA stars have the time of their lives at Madison Keys' wedding
Sloane Stephens, Jessica Pegula, Taylor Townsend, and several other American WTA stars joined Madison Keys' bridal squad for her wedding with Bjorn Fratangelo in Charleston on Saturday, November 23.
Madison Keys met Fratangelo, who is also a professional tennis player, when the pair trained together at the same facility in Boca Raton, Florida. They started dating in 2017 and kept their relationship private for several years before getting engaged in March 2023.
Over a year and a half later, the couple is tying the knot in Charleston. Several American WTA stars have joined the party including Sloane Stephens, Jessica Pegula, Taylor Townsend, Desirae Krawczyk, and Jennifer Brady.
Townsend gave a sneak peek into the festivities through her Instagram Story. She posted a candid video with Krawczyk and Brady in the frame and Pegula being a "paparazzi" in the background.
In one of the images shared on Saturday, the four tennis stars posed for a picture as they looked glamorous in their dresses. In another video, Townsend showed Stephens' "rare 2-step" dance move. The WTA stars were having the time of their lives during the wedding.
When Madison Keys opened up about the wholesome way Bjorn Fratangelo proposed to her
After her first-round win over Emma Navarro at the Charleston Open in 2023, Madison Keys detailed the wholesome way her partner Bjorn Fratangelo proposed to her.
"He actually did it at home. The day that I got back from Dubai so I was not expecting it at all," she said. "I was sitting on the couch and he was like, ‘Hey I have your birthday present.’ He handed me something and then got down on one knee. Just sitting on the couch so now we have to keep the couch forever."
At the time, Keys was unsure of a wedding date. She believed that being professional players, it was tough for them to find the time.
"As tennis players we don’t have a lot of time and weekends that could potentially work," Keys said. "So we’re trying to nail down one very specific day and hope things work out."
The couple did, however, make time during the offseason of 2024 to tie the knot.
The 29-year-old, who began her season this year in March with the event at Indian Wells, held a 24-12 record this year winning one title on the clay court of Strasbourg in May. Her last professional match of 2024 was at the Wuhan Open - a first-round loss against Beatriz Haddad Maia.
