Stefanos Tsitsipas calls Bjorn Borg the 'most good-looking captain' as Swedish legend bids adieu to Laver Cup in Berlin

Stefanos Tsitsipas showered light-hearted praise on his Team Europe captain Bjorn Borg and vice-captain Thomas Enqvist ahead of the 2024 Laver Cup. This is the last year Borg and Enqvist lead Team Europe and Tsitsipas acknowledged that he will miss them.

Since the inaugural Laver Cup in 2017, Borg has led Team Europe and John McEnroe has led Team World. However, from 2025, Andre Agassi will take the reign for Team World, while Yannick Noah will lead Team Europe.

The 2024 edition of the Roger Federer-backed event is set to begin on Friday, September 20 at the Uber Arena in Berlin, Germany.

Grigor Dimitrov, Daniil Medvedev, Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz, Casper Ruud, and Stefanos Tsitsipas represent Team Europe (Blue). Team World (Red) consists of Francisco Cerundolo, Ben Shelton, Taylor Fritz, Frances Tiafoe, Alejandro Tabilo, and Thanasi Kokkinakis.

The pre-tournament press conferences were held on Thursday, and the players and captains were all in a cheerful mood. During Team Europe's presser, Tsitsipas was asked about his captains and what their final year meant to the Blue team.

"Well, I'll tell you this thing: I honestly feel privileged to be led by the most good-looking captains that I could have ever asked for (smiling). I'm going to definitely miss them. Bjorn and Thomas, both of them are the golden gem of the team, holding us together, making sure everything is operated and run smoothly," Tsitsipas said.

The Greek has represented the blue corner thrice in 2019, 2021, and 2022. He has tasted success with Borg and Enqvist twice.

"We have had some really good memories together, and I'm hoping we can leave Berlin with some even greater ones, bigger ones, and we can both build something wonderful this week," he added.

Tsitsipas holds a 4-3 record at the Laver Cup. He has won three out of his four singles matches and one out of three doubles matches.

In a recent interview with the Laver Cup, Stefanos Tsitsipas opened up about what an experience it has been to play under the leadership of Swedish tennis legend Bjorn Borg. He claimed it was "probably one of the coolest experiences" of his life.

The 26-year-old called is grateful to have the "living legend" in his corner.

“He’s literally a living legend. And to have him on the bench, the guy does provide support, coaches from time to time. It was something very soothing and something very refreshing to have by our side. So, I’m grateful that he was able to lead us in his ways and to provide wisdom and knowledge within the sport,” Tsitsipas said.

Tsitsipas will be in action on the first day of the 2024 Laver Cup as he will take on Thanasi Kokkinakis in singles. The other singles matches include Casper Ruud vs. Francisco Cerundolo and Grigor Dimitrov vs. Alejandro Tabilo. Meanwhile, Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev will face Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton in doubles.
