Stefanos Tsitsipas confirms full recovery from shoulder injury ahead of Monte-Carlo Masters 2023
Stefanos Tsitsipas has stated that he has fully recovered from his shoulder injury ahead of the 2023 Monte Carlo Masters, much to the delight of his fans.
Tsitsipas picked up a shoulder injury soon after his 2023 Australian Open campaign. Things have been heading south for the Greek player ever since, losing three of his six matches played on tour. However, he has worked his way through his injury just in time before the clay season commences.
In a recent interview with Sky, the World No. 3 confirmed that he is in a position to play without experiencing any pain.
"I'm really happy I'm in a position now where I don't have to think about the pain anymore. I don't have to change things around that. So, I'm able to go back to the way I wanted to play," he stated.
Tsitsipas also opened up about his tough period after the Melbourne Major, enduring shoulder pain at the ABN AMRO Open which worsened at the Davis Cup.
"I had very good Australian swing. Things didn't really go that well for me after Australia. I also started feeling a little bit of injury on my shoulder," Tsitsipas said.
"Yeah, Rotterdam was not a good experience for me," he added. "But, the worst experience of them all was coming to play Davis Cup. That's where I first felt my shoulder being stressed and fatigued. That was the period I felt very down in terms of my performance."
The 24-year-old suggested that overplaying in Australia might have led to his shoulder burn-out.
"I think from overplaying in Australia, I was practising everyday, I was playing long matches. I don't know whether or not I took the right decision with my days off and what so, but I really wanted to do well in Australia," the Greek opined.
Stefanos Tsitsipas is the defending champion at Monte-Carlo Masters
Stefanos Tsitsipas enters the 2023 Monte-Carlo Masters as the defending champion. The Greek trounced Alejandro Davidovich Fokina over two sets (6-3, 7-6(3)) in the summit clash to claim the title last year. Tsitsipas defeated the likes of Alexander Zverev and Diego Schwartzmann on his way to the title.
Things are expected to be much more difficult this time around with Novak Djokovic looking ever so likely to make it all the way, taking into account his impressive start to the season.
Tsitsipas will commence his campaign in Monte-Carlo with a second-round match on Tuesday (April 11). He will face the winner of the first round clash between Benjamin Bonzi and Bernabe Zapata Miralles.
