Stefanos Tsitsipas' shock US Open 2024 exit hilariously called to Sydney Sweeney's attention by Max Purcell

The recent match between Stefanos Tsitsipas and Thanasi Kokkinakis marked a shockingly early exit of the former from the US Open 2024. This caught Kokkinakis' fellow Australian tennis player Max Purcell's attention, and he called Sydney Sweeney's attention to the Australian's win.

The 11th seed Tsitsipas failed to move ahead of round 1 of the men's singles at the US Open 2024 and faced defeat by Kokkinakis in 3 hours and 45 minutes. Kokkinakis defeated him 7-6(5), 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 and dominated the game by hitting 17 aces and 47 winners. Along with this, he broke his streak of not winning a single match at the US Open in the last five years.

Kokkinakis converted four of his break points, which was just one more than the Greek player, and this ended up being the deciding factor in the context of the game. The Australian also won more points on the first and second serves.

Following this showdown, the Australian shared an Instagram post where he uploaded a carousel of pictures from the match, captioning it:

"We do thisss @USOpen"

Stefanos Tsitsipas opened up about his early loss at the US Open 2024

Following his loss to Thanasi Kokkinaki, Stefanos Tsitsipas gave a candid assessment of his early exit from the US Open 2024 in the post-match press conference. He said he felt he is "nothing compared to the player [he] was before", saying:

"I remember myself playing when I was younger, playing with adrenaline on the court, feeling like my life depends on the match. And these things, I feel like they have faded off, and let’s say my level of consistency hasn’t been as big."

Opening up about his drop in concentration, the Greek player added:

"I remember my concentration used to be at its highest, at its peak, back then, and that’s something that I felt has dropped a little bit. I know it sounds strange, but I feel like I need the hunger to reproduce the hunger I had back then."

Tsitsipas faced almost the same fate during the 2024 Cincinnati Masters in the men's singles. He lost to Jack Draper in the second round of the tournament 6-3, 4-6, 5-7.
