"Stefanos Tsitsipas still has to improve" - Paula Badosa pokes fun at boyfriend's dancing skills
Paula Badosa recently poked fun at boyfriend Stefanos Tsitsipas over his dancing skills. According to Badosa, the Greek still has some way to go before he perfects his dance moves.
Badosa is currently in New York for the 2024 US Open where her campaign ended in the quarterfinals. She lost to home hopeful Emma Navarro, the No. 13 seed who ousted defending champion Coco Gauff in the previous round.
Off the court, the former WTA World No. 2 is an avid dancer and often posts dance videos across her social media channels. Since she started dating Tsitsipas last year, the former ATP World No. 3 has also featured occasionally in the Spaniard's videos.
In a recent interview with Sportdeutschland.TV, Paula Badosa laid bare that dance is very much an integral part of her family. The Spaniard's father, Josep Badosa Codolar, used to be a dancer, and that fueled a passion for dance among all the members of the Badosa family. The World No. 29 added that she often dances to relieve herself of stress.
"My dad was a dancer also. So at home, we always dance. It's a part of me that I really enjoy. It's a hobby and even when I'm nervous, when I'm bored or in any situation I just put on music and I dance and it makes me feel much better," Badosa said.
The Spaniard was asked to rate boyfriend Stefanos Tsitsipas' prowess at dancing, and she responded by saying that despite their occasional dance practice sessions together, the Greek still needs to get better.
"Stefanos still has to improve. We're getting there. Sometimes we practice but yes, he has to improve," Badosa added.
On a more serious note, Tsitsipas' form on the tennis court is in need of some improvement as well. The Greek had a rather forgettable US Open Series experience this time around, whereas Badosa was in resurgent form.
Stefanos Tsitsipas' US Open Series performances have been a stark contrast to those of girlfriend Paula Badosa
Stefanos Tsitsipas endured a miserable 2024 US Open Series outing. The Greek was bundled out of the National Bank Open in Montreal by Kei Nishikori in the first round. Not long after, British youngster Jack Draper defeated the former World No. 3 in the second round at the Cincinnati Open.
However, Tsitsipas' biggest upset came at the 2024 US Open, as the No. 11 seed's campaign ended with a first-round loss to the unseeded Thanasi Kokkinakis. The Greek had also featured in mixed doubles action at the hardcourt Major alongside Badosa, but they could not make it past the first round. Tsitsipas also stirred controversy during the mixed doubles match by violently throwing his racquet on the court after hitting a wayward one-handed backhand.
Meanwhile, Paula Badosa won the Citi Open in Washington, D. C., before losing to Jelena Ostapenko in the second round of the National Bank Open in Toronto. The Spaniard then reached the US Open quarterfinals; her first quarterfinal appearance at a Major since the 2021 French Open.
