Sumit Nagal Upcoming Tournament: When will the Indian be in action next?

India’s top-ranked men’s singles tennis player, Sumit Nagal, is all set to feature at the Brawo Open on Tuesday, July 9. The Brawo Open is a clay-based (red) ATP Challenger event played at the Braunschweiger Tennis- und Hockey Club in Braunschweig, Germany. Second-seeded Sumit Nagal will take on unseeded Felipe Alves of Brazil in a Round-of-32 encounter at 1:30 pm IST.

Playing at the Brawo Open acts as a perfect preparation for Nagal, who’ll be featuring at the Paris Olympics 2024, where the tennis events will be played on clay courts of the iconic Stade Roland Garros.

Paris-bound N Sriram Balaji will also be featuring at the Brawo Open in men’s doubles, partnering Gonzalo Escobar of Ecuador. They’ll be up against the Bolivian duo of Boris Arias and Federico Zeballos in a Round-of-16 match. Meanwhile, Vijay Sundar Prashanth and Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan are paired up to take on Matwé Middelkoop and Denys Molchanov.

Sumit Nagal’s performance at Wimbledon 2024

Sumit Nagal, ranked 73rd in the men’s singles ATP rankings, recently played at Wimbledon 2024 in London, England. He didn’t have a great outing in what was his debut main-draw appearance there.

Nagal lost to Serbia’s Miomir Kecmanović in the opening round of men’s singles. In the men’s doubles, he paired with Dusan Lajovic of Serbia, but the fate was the same there as well. They ended up losing to the Spanish duo of Pedro Martinez and Jaume Munar in the first round.

Nagal will now aim to make amends in the Brawo Open and come back to form as he prepares for his second appearance at the Olympics. Notably, he is the only Indian to have qualified in men’s singles at the Paris Olympics 2024.

The other two Indians there would be veteran, Rohan Bopanna paired up with Sriram Balaji, in the men’s doubles category.
