Taylor Fritz's girlfriend Morgan Riddle nostalgic about the American's title win at BNP Paribas Open a year ago
American tennis sensation Taylor Fritz's girlfriend Morgan Riddle was recently nostalgic about her boyfriend's title win at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells a year ago.
Fritz defeated 22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) in 2022 to win the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, ending the Spaniard's perfect 20-0 start to the year.
The American, who was ranked 20th in the world at the time, won his second career title and first at the elite Masters 1000 level, denying Nadal a record-tying 37th Masters title.
In light of this, Taylor Fritz's girlfriend and social media influencer Morgan Riddle took to her Instagram stories to relive the moment, sharing a photo of the couple together taken after the tournament's trophy ceremony.
"A year ago," Riddle wrote, adding a pleading face emoticon.
Fritz and Riddle started dating in 2020 and have been in a happy relationship ever since. They were also seen together on Netflix's new docuseries, 'Break Point,' which followed Fritz and other top tennis players while they competed on tour last year.
"I'm reminded that I'm defending the title every hour, it's tough to forget that" - Taylor Fritz on defending his BNP Paribas Open title
Taylor Fritz is having a great time at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells in 2023. He advanced to the fourth round by defeating Ben Shelton and Sebastian Baez in the second and third rounds, respectively.
In a press conference, Fritz was asked how it feels to be the defending champion in the ATP Masters 1000 tournament. The California native replied that he is reminded that he is defending the title every hour or so and that he is just trying to get "good results" to end the year at the top of the race.
"Yeah, I'm reminded that I'm defending the title every, like, hour or so (smiling). It's tough to forget that, but I am trying to take it like how it is, you know," Fritz said.
"We start over at zero, the race, the race is the race. I'm just trying to have good results to put myself in the best position to end the year at the highest spot in the race," he added.
Fourth seed Taylor Fritz will continue his title defense against Marton Fucsovics in the fourth round on Wednesday, March 14. The pair haven't met before on the tour, so their head-to-head currently stands at 0-0.
