Tennis calendar for October 2024: Complete list of ATP and WTA tournaments ft. Novak Djokovic and Coco Gauff in action
The 2024 tennis calendar is nearing its business end with only a handful of events remaining on the ATP and WTA Tours. The Grand Slam season ended with the conclusion of the US Open in the early part of August.
For both ATP and WTA tours, top players will be in action in the latter stages of the calendars as there are important points to be accumulated to qualify for the all-important year-ending ATP and WTA championships respectively.
Let's take a look at the events that are scheduled to take place in October in both the ATP and WTA Tours.
ATP Tour schedule for October 2024
On the ATP side, the players are part of the China Open and Japan Open which are scheduled to end in the early days of October. After those events, seven events are penciled down for the Tour in October.
The month starts with the Rolex Shangai Masters, the penultimate Masters 1000 event on the Calendar. The event will see all the top-ranked players in action, including World No. 4 and four-time Shanghai Champion Novak Djokovic who will make a return to the Tour since the US Open.
After Shanghai, there are a series of five events on indoor hardcourts. The first three events will be in Kazakhstan, Stockholm, and Antwerp which are ATP 250 events. This will be followed by two ATP 500 events in Vienna and Basel.
The month will end with the final ATP Masters 1000 event at the Rolex Paris Masters. All the top-ranked players are expected to play at the event to make a final play for the ATP Finals in Turin next month.
WTA Tour schedule for October 2024
On the WTA Tour, players are currently playing at the penultimate WTA 1000 event at the China Open with all the top stars like Aryna Sabalenka and Coco Gauff in action on the courts of Beijing.
After China, the WTA Calendar will have its last WTA 1000 event for 2024 at the Wuhan Open, where all the players will look to accumulate as many points as possible. The Tour remains in Asia with two WTA 250 events slated to take place in Osaka, Guangzhou, Jiujhiang, and Hong Kong and two WTA 500 events to be staged in Ningbo and Tokyo. The only event scheduled to take place outside of Asia in October is the Merida Open, in Mexico.
This phase will be key in determining the year-ending rankings because second-ranked Aryna Sablenka is hot on the heels of the World No. 1 Iga Swiatek. With uncertainty over the Pole's return to the Tour, the Belarusian can close the gap to the top of the rankings.
