"That’s my son right there making me proud" - Liam Broady reacts to some of Andy Murray's best moments from 2022
One of the most liked tennis players in the world, Andy Murray has won over everyone with his perseverance throughout his career. His compatriot Liam Broady recently remarked that he was proud of the 2012 US Open winner.
The three-time Grand Slam champion bowed out in the third round of the recently-concluded 2023 Australian Open. However, he produced stunning performances in his first two matches. He kicked off his campaign by defeating Matteo Berrettini 6-3, 6-3, 4-6, 6-7(7), 7-6 (10-6) in four hours and 49 minutes.
In another five-set thriller in the second round, Murray fought back from two sets down to beat Thanasi Kokkinakis. He won 4-6, 6-7(4), 7-6(5), 6-3, 7-5 in five hours and 45 minutes.
The Brit lost 6-1, 6-7(7), 6-3, 6-4 to Spain's Roberto Bautista Agut in the third round. Despite playing just three matches, he spent over 14 hours on the court.
One of Murray's fans recently shared a couple of videos from the 2022 Laver Cup. The first clip shows the World No. 61 winning an impossible point on a volley against Team World's Alex de Minaur. Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and the rest of Team Europe could be seen cheering Murray on.
"Thinking about how many viral moments Andy has been in over the past year alone. It’s kinda crazy actually," a fan tweeted.
Reacting to the fan's tweet, Broady wrote:
"That’s my son right there making me proud."
The second video in the fan's thread was from a photoshoot ahead of the tournament when Team Europe was out on the streets of London. While walking alongside Federer, Novak Djokovic, and Bjorn Borg, Murray asked someone about the tallest building in the United Kingdom, The Shard.
Federer, who knew about the building, answered Murray's query. This urged Djokovic to troll him, saying that the local was getting lessons about London from Federer.
"[That building is] the Shard. That's how it is [in its looks]. It's like a broken glass. But this is London, we know that," Federer said.
"Andy, he's giving you lessons about London," the Serb joked.
Andy Murray joins Novak Djokovic at Dubai Tennis Championships
After receiving a wildcard for the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, Andy Murray will compete for the first time since the 2023 Australian Open.
He won the ATP 500 event in 2017 by defeating Fernando Verdasco in the final. Some of the other participants this time are Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medvedev, Alexander Zverev, and defending champion Andrey Rublev.
“Coming back to Dubai brings with it a lot of good memories, not least 2017 and the final with Fernando," Andy Murray said. “My form is improving and my game is getting better, so the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships provides another great opportunity for me to continue to climb back up the rankings.”
